I'm a 30-year woman who grew up in Maine, studied in New York, and has lived in Istanbul for 5 years and New Zealand for 2 years. I love traveling and work from home. I also like the idea of working from other people's homes. :)

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
I'll be honest, my flat is very modest. It's well furnished and has everything you'd need, but it doesn't have a very homey feel. The selling point is certainly the neighborhood. Great neighbors, great location, well suited to a student, digital nomad, or young couple. It's a second-story walk-up, so you'll want to be fairly able-bodied. Istanbul is a city of walking and public transportation and this is a very authentic, old-fashioned neighborhood where everything you need for daily life is within walking distance. You'll love being close to the action but away from the tourists.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
A lively neighborhood, where you'll always hear some level of noise on the street. Istanbul is vibrant and alive, and our neighborhood is one of the oldest and best lived in that there is. Very close to a hospital, so there are always people around, 24/7. You'll feel extremely safe here, since it's a truly family-oriented and "neighborhoody" part of the city.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Walk just 15-20 minutes down to Uskudar square, one of the main hubs on the Asian side of Istanbul. From there, it's an amazing, but short ferry ride to points of interest on the European side: Eminonu (historical peninsula, including the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofya), Besiktas (where you'll find a lot of bars, clubs, and a football stadium), or Taksim (the nightlife district). Or, take a short bus ride (10 minutes) to Kadikoy, the hipster/arts side of town. This could be the best neighborhood in the city for a visitor who wishes to avoid traffic by walking everywhere or taking boats instead of busses!
Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Always prefer tidy, clean people! I'm a neat freak and love to organize. I also choose to live fairly minimalist in order to minimize clutter and waste.
