Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

We are situated on a modern development built on the site of the historic riverside industrial area of Worcester. The area is residential only with no through traffic so remains blissfully quiet. The Severn runs adjacent to the development and links to the Birmingham Worcester canal. The apartment is in a fantastic position to access the city centre, which is a short walk on a level, paved riverside path passing Worcester Cathedral. Diglis boasts a lovely canal basin and the country's longest 'deep vertical slot fish pass' to bypass the weir, which you'll admire on walks round the river.

The city centre hosts a range of shops, restaurants and bars both independents and others. A recent development of eateries and bars underneath the railway arches is proving very popular and full of atmosphere. A very useful Marks and Spencer with food hall sits opposite a large Boots in the city centre. We're well catered for with supermarkets in easy reach, including Tesco, Waitrose and a new out-of-town Marks and Spencer, all a short drive from the apartment.

Some more of our favourite places.
There are some gorgeous cafes and eateries under the railway arches in the centre of the city:
Ramen - https://manekiramen.com
Burgers - https://aruleoftum.com/burgershopworc
Gourmet sandwiches & pizza - https://www.sangers-deli.com
Coffee - https://methodroastery.com

In Diglis Basin:
Great pub food - https://www.theanchorworcester.co.uk

Friar Street
Modern bistro - https://globebistro.net
Great earthy brewery and bar (open Fridays and Saturdays only) - https://www.thesociablebeercompany.com/venue/

Malvern
Of course for walking, but also a gorgeous cafe for coffee brunch and lunch (bacon sandwich to write home about)
Faun - https://www.faunmalvern.co.uk

We are well placed to visit surrounding areas such as The Cotswolds, Wye Valley, Herefordshire and Shropshire. Cheltenham is a 40 minute drive, an hours drive will take you to Birmingham, Bristol, Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwick. A little further afield are Oxford, 90 minutes and London 2 hours 20 mins. Worcester is home to three railway stations providing comprehensive links to major towns and cities.

You can see Worcester Cathedral from your bedroom, and the heart of the city is just a 15 minute walk along the river. Worcester will appeal to history buffs being the site of the battle of Worcester, the last battle of the civil war in 1651. Many more historical attractions including The Commandery, Guildhall, Greyfriars House, The Tudor House Museum, Museum of Royal Worcester Porcelain, Friar Street.

You can amble to the county cricket ground, the racecourse and all the other sights in this historic city. If sport is your thing choose from Worcester Warriors rugby, Worcester Wolves basketball and the Severn Stars netball franchise. Short drives take you to the Elgar route, Hanbury Hall, Harvington Hall, Great Malvern priory, Hartlebury Castle and much more. Take day trips to the Cotswolds, Bath, Cheltenham, the literary festival at Hay on Wye, enjoy wonderful food at Ludlow, Ledbury and the glorious countryside of Herefordshire and the Welsh borders.
