Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our home is in a converted maltings built around 1850 with views over open countryside. We are located just outside the pretty village of Alne, ten miles North of York, and a similar distance from the North York Moors National Park. Our home comprises of three bedrooms, two en-suite, and the third with adjoining bathroom and snug. There are three levels with the main living area situated in the middle. There is a large living room leading to a dining area and kitchen. There is also a utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer on this floor. The house has a spiral staircase from top to bottom and would be unsuitable for very young children or anyone with mobility difficulties.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our neighbourhood is very quiet. We are ten miles from York, about twenty minutes from the city centre. The nearest shopping/dining is Easingwold, three miles away, a Georgian market town, which has a selection of shops, tea rooms and pubs. Alne, itself, has a very good gastro pub, The Bluebell. There are many villages in the area, most of which, sell locally produced meals.

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

From our house it is a twenty minute drive into the centre of York with all its famous attractions. There is a Park and Ride site for the city ten minutes away or a bus service stopping outside the house which goes into the city centre hourly. York is famed for its Minster, the largest Gothic Cathedral in Europe, The National Railway Museum, The Jorvik Viking Centre and the City Walls. There are many museums, theatres and a huge range of entertainment and leisure/dining and shopping opportunities.

The coast is just over an hour away over the North York Moors, passing through Helmsley and Pickering, on the way to resorts such as Scarborough, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Harrogate and The Yorkshire Dales are half an hour to the West with Ilkley and Skipton about an hour away. For enthusiastic cyclists, bringing their own bikes, there are miles and miles of routes in the area. The majority of traffic passing our house in the Spring and Summer are cyclists.

There are a number of historic houses and gardens in the area, including Castle Howard, Newby Hall, Duncombe Park and Harewood House. The nearest National Trust property, Beningbrough Hall, is about four miles from our house. Nunnington Hall and Fountains Abbey are a short drive away. English Heritage properties include Helmsley Castle, Pickering Castle, Clifford's Tower, Rievaulx Abbey, Byland Abbey and Whitby Abbey.
