Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Blackheath Standard is small centre with shops, typical for a London suburb, but with grass opposite us and the green space of Blackheath itself and Greenwich Park close by. There are buses that will take you anywhere close by, or to central London, or to the underground (North Greenwich) or train stations (either Westcombe Park or Blackheath). The Royal Standard is a pub at the heart of the neighbourhood, named after the flag raised for the royal forces in the Civil War - Blackheath itself was the site of peasant armies and revolts in the centuries before that, but it is all a peaceful place now.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Greenwich is a world heritage site, with a beautiful park and buildings, museums and a wonderful indoor market. There are restaurants and cafes aplenty in the centre of Greenwich, plus the Cutty Sark clipper boat by the Thames to visit, and (no less enjoyable) the Cutty Sark pub, which is tucked away on the bank of the river and always wonderful. That's North and West from us. To the South (bus ride or twenty minute walk across the Heath) is the lively and beautiful neighbourhood of Blackheath. Getting into town though is straightforward, as much as it ever is in London, which is such a big city but does have excellent public transport.
