We are in our 60s, retired and have had more than 20 exchanges, often exchanging with the same people several times. We prefer exchanges of around 1-3 weeks, and prefer locations with good transport links, cultural interest, and boats (!). We don't exchange in August, though a non sim exchange to our cottage in Arran may be possible.

Read More...Before this visit, I had only spent a few days in Edinburgh visiting the tourist hotspots along the Royal Mile. This city has so much more! Roberta and Angus' home is in a fantastic neighbourhood that is still walking distance or an easy bus ride to major tourist attractions, but has lots right at your doorstep, offering two modern art museums, the Leith River walking trail, short walk to Botanical Gardens, great restaurants in west-end and in Stockbridge, easy train service to Glasgow, Perth and St. Andrews, an easy drive to area lakes and hiking. And Roberta and Angus were so helpful with suggestions before and during my stay and their home is amazingly spacious and lovely. These are wonderful exchangers with a wonderful home!

Read More...In a combined vacation to Edinburgh, Roberta and Angus' holiday home was the perfect place to unwind and explore at a leisurely pace. The views on Arran are astounding with beautiful waterscapes, sunsets and more. The cottage itself is an easy walk into Lamlash and right on a bus line that encircles the island. Great food, fantastic scotch (my favourite was the Robert Burns 12 year old at Isle of Arran distillery). While there was sadly not enough time to golf, the vistas from the golf course right across the street from the cottage looked breath-taking -- not sure I would have been able to pay attention to my game in those surroundings! Roberta and Angus were very helpful with specific advice and instructions on booking ferries, their favourite island restaurants and tips on things to do. What a wonderful holiday!

An excellent exchange. A lovely home for exploring on our first trip to Arran. Really comfortable when we stayed in and watched the rain.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
This is a much loved comfortable fully renovated small cottage in the village of Lamlash on the Isle of Arran, opposite Lamlash Golf course. The cottage has 2 small bedrooms, a living/dining room, a modern kitchen, and a modern bathroom. The cottage has a pleasant outlook over the village and the golf course and also has views to Holy Isle from the front garden. It is accessible, please feel free to contact us if you have any particular questions.
Arran is known as Scotland in Miniature and is a popular holiday and retirement island, as well as being a haven for golfers, walkers, cyclists, climbers and artists. Arran has a number of historic monuments, including Brodick Castle (National Trust for Scotland), Lochranza Castle (small ruin run by Historic Scotland), stone circles and other neolithic monuments, and a small local history museum. It is also an easy day trip by car and ferry to Kilmartin Glen, in Argyll, one of the largest neolithic areas in Scotland. It has several distilleries open to the public.
Lamlash is a pleasant small village with various pubs, restaurants, cafes and shops in walking distance, together with the ferry to Holy Isle. There is a good regular bus service Monday to Saturday.
The cottage is accessible easily by train and ferry from Glasgow (about 2 hours) or by car via the Calmac ferry from Ardrossan (50 minutes).
Car exchange is possible.
About us : we are retired IT people : I am Australian, I used to be a librarian and now I paint and occasionally exhibit my work. Angus is Scottish and mainly interested in boats and skiing.
