Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a small Scottish village, famous as the home of the National Trust for Scotland's Weavers Cottage, a working example of a 19th century weaving premises which produced the famous Paisley shawls. Our house is one of the weavers cottage which line the main street. Built in 1856, it is now a comfortable , cosy place which retains its original charm, and has a large secluded wildlife garden. The village has a few shops, two pubs, hairdresser, dentist and vet and a lively music scene, plus it's own pipe band. It is very conveniently situated for access to the main roads and all the main cities can be reached in a day, plus the west coast islands and north to the Highlands. Nearby, there is a watersports centre, golf courses and miles of lovely countryside for walking and cycling.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
The village itself is small but has a local shop, 2 pubs, hairdressers etc but within 15 mins there are 3 large supermarkets for the weekly shop. The village has an active live music scene, with 2 venues for visiting artists plus live music in the pubs. It also has its own pipe band who play every Sunday in the village square during the summer. Kilbarchan is ideally situated to see a lage amount of Scotland during your stay, with the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, Dundee, Perth, St Andrews and Aberdeen all visited as a day trip, and there is easy road/rail/ferry access for longer trips to the Highlands and Islands. One trip we always recommend to visitors is Mount Stuart on the Isle of Bute, a fantastic period house in a lovely setting, with a great ferry ride to a lovely island. The islands of Cumbrae and Arran are also worth a visit, Arran often described as Scotland in minature with the mountainous rugged north of the island a lovely contrast to the gentle rolling hills of the south. For cultural attractions, there are the great museums and art galleries of Glasgow and Edinburgh, first class shopping areas and beatiful concert halls and theatres for classical music, ballet, opera and stage plays. We have built up an extensive file of information on differnt attractions/activites for you to look at, so you will never be stuck for something to do or see, and will just wish you were here for longer!
