Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Burnham is one of the driest areas in the UK and its Country Park and river Crouch are areas of delight and relaxation. It's lack of any serious form of crime and violence is especially noteworthy. A number of Restaurants can be recommended all give good value.
Vita Bella East in Hanningfield, is rated one of thre best in Essex
Maldon: Le Bouchon is classic English Hotel style, Sark Restaurant
Dining Room in Leigh on sea, Southend
The Hawk in Battlesbridge (at a very large and unusual Antique Centre)
The Anchor at Hullbridge – also is near.
The Westcliff (Southend) Casino has a good reasonable priced restaurant
In Burnham: The Oyster Smack, The White Harte and The Ship are all very satisfactory.
Interesting places to visit
Maldon, an old market Town
Chelmsford County Town with modern shops
Colchester perhaps Britain’s oldest Roman Town
Theatres
Cliffs Pavilion and The Palace both Southend on Sea
Chelmsford City
Mercury Colchester,
Theatre Royal in Bury Saint Edmund
All are excellent
Walks
Too many to detail but information on some interesting walks are in the bungalow.
Burnham’s County Park is a delightful area to walk alongside the river and enjoy a beer or coffee at either end.
Danbury lakes and Maldon Park are large, attractive and interesting.
Supermarkets – Fiveways in Burnham, Sainsbury and ASDA in Woodham Ferrers, Tesco, Lidl and Morrison’s in Maldon.
Transport – There is a good but long Bus service to Maldon and Chelmsford. Every 30 minutes a train service to London (just over the hour) and local Taxis: Gemini, Dengie, B&H.
