Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home, is perched up the side of a mountain, in a beautiful part of the Western Cape Peninsula. From our deck the view is across False Bay to the Hottentot Holland mountains. We’re a short stroll downhill from Fisherman’s Beach, a bit of a puff on the way back! We’re about a 10 minute drive from historic Simon’s Town, first settled in 1677. The harbour is home to South Africa’s modest navy.
Simon’s Town is basically one street of mostly Victorian buildings, with steep cobbled back streets dotted along it. The town has a good selection of shops, café’s and restaurants. In Jubilee square market traders sell traditional South African crafts.
Down the road is Boulder’s Beach, with its famous colony of Jackass penguins. Carry on for another 20 minutes and you’ll come to the stunning Cape Point Nature Reserve.
Head the other way out of town and you’ll come to Fish Hoek; not trendy, but useful for Supermarkets, Chemists Pizza and Burger joints, Banks, and some shops that think we’re still in the 1950’s! Plus of course the beautiful long Fish Hoek beach.
Pass through and you’re on the way to Kalk Bay, with its small harbour, antique shops, a small theatre, great restaurants many of them specialising in seafood. Kalk Bay was ranked by Forbes magazine as ‘the coolest neighbourhood in the world’!
Keep going, and on to Muizenberg well known as a surfer’s paradise.
Next.......Cape Town.
It’s about 45 minutes drive from Simon’s Town, mostly on motorway.
Cape Town has Theatres, Art, Music, V&A Waterfront Restaurants. A cable car trip to the top of Table Mountain, and world renowned Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens with outdoor concerts every weekend.
And don’t forget....we’re only one hour from the famous winelands of the Cape in Stellenbosch, Constantia and Franschhoek.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
It is important to lock up and use the burglar alarm when leaving the house and at night. Leave the house as you found it with clean sheets (provided) on the beds.
*We have a rescue cat Oona she is well behaved.
She needs to be in the house by sunset as there is a Caracal (medium-sized wild cat native to Africa) in our area who eats cats. She is let out once you wake up and spends most of the day sleeping. The cat door needs to be locked at night so she can’t go out, and opened again in the morning, Only windows with screens open as she gets through the smallest spaces between burglar bars./dried food.Fresh water every day. She mainly keeps to herself and goes in and out of the cat door, and comes and goes as she pleases during the day. She has been de-flead and wormed.
She can be fed by a friend should you want to be away for a few days exploring. We will need to arrange this so need warning please.
If this is not something you wish to do please let us know.
