Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Beautiful 2-bedroom renovated "Gründerzeit" apartment from 1905 with 3,60m heigh ceilings, wooden floors, old and retro furniture and a balcony and of course Wifi. The apartment is absolutely spot on in Berlins most interesting area, 5 min from the East Side Gallery, 5 min from the Berghain and many other clubs. Right out of the door is a huge choice of original bars, restaurants and shops. Around the corner are Boxhagener Square and RAW with weekend grocery (saturdays) and vintage-fleamarkets (sundays). I do live here since ten years and really enjoy the area with all the cultural attraction it has to offer. The metro "Warschauer Str." is just 10 min. walking distance and gets you anywhere. (The windows and doors are brandnew and well isolated. So it is not noisy. But note that this is not a super-quiet place, you can hear the tram passing and in the evening the people on the streets.) Ecological, vegan and regular supermarkets are around the corner.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

This apartment is in the culturally most interesting areas of Berlin: Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. When you go out of my door, you are sourrounded by a huge choice of original bars, cafés, restaurants for every taste and pocket and shops created with a lot of love. Around the corner (really!) is Boxhagener Square and the RAW creative area, which among other events host big vintage fleamarkets every sunday and grocery markets on saturdays. East Side Gallery is a 10 min. walk, as are Berghain, Renate, Watergate and many other of the infamous Berlin clubs. My house is part of a historicially area from 1900. Mostly gentrified, squats, clubs and cultural projects still resist gentrification here, which creates a vibrant scene. The Spree is 10 min. walking, Treptower parks and other green areas are reachable with the bikes provided in 10 min. Biking is the way to move in Berlin! Take the metro from Warschauer Str. (10 min. walking) and reach all destinations you may want to visit. I love it!

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

When arriving, just open the door to the balcony. You can watch the people passing by and sitting in the cafés, even before you feel ready to venture out yourself. For the beginning, I encourage you just to make a walk in my neighbourhood, visit the Boxhagener Fleamarket and the alternative culture area RAW with galleries, graffitti and a lot to discover. Then you might want to take your pick in one of the hundreds of beautiful cafés or restaurants in this area, maybe for some real german kitchen - or something more exotic if it is vegan, asian, arab or bulgarian - you can find it here. After having indulged in this it might be time to walk to East Side Gallery an visit the old Berlin Wall, leading you to the next attraction: Spree river. Or you take the bike or metro venture into "old" Berlin - or visit Treptower Park with its scary sowjet monument and a derelict amusement park. When night falls, the clubs come alive and inivite you to dance the night away and to get lost - in Berlin.
