Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Rennes is the focus on youth and culture, but there’s also a series of fortified castles that formed the region’s line of defence in the past. You are ten minutes walk from the subway and the train station, twenty minutes by walk from the town center.
An indoor and outdoor olympic swimming-pool is located just near our house.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Rennes locals are spoilt for choice when it comes to culture. With almost weekly festivals, a cutting-edge music scene, exhibitions galore in its galleries and museums, and street art scattered across town, Rennes is a city where culture abounds.
Rennes is a green city that co-exists peacefully with Mother Nature. Home to a patchwork of parks and gardens, such as the renowned Parc du Thabor, Rennes' answer to Central Park, the Parc des Gayeulles, the banks of the river Vilaine with its ponds and towpaths, and the many green spaces within the city walls, nature is everywhere you look in Rennes. Go from city bustle to untouched countryside in a matter of minutes.
We're foodies here in Rennes, and love nothing more than an opportunity to tuck into local specialities like our iconic sausage galettes, or traditional crêpes and galettes pancakes washed down with a glass of cider. Regional Breton produce is put to good use here: fresh fruit and vegetables, seafood and shellfish, and fish from the nearby coast. The city is chock-a-block full of fantastic eateries to tempt fans of fine-dining, bistros, street food and market-stall fare, as well as local craft beers.
Things to do around Rennes :
- Cap Frehel – Saint-Malo – Mont St Michel Bay (1 hour by car)
Stretching from Mont Saint Michel – often simply called ‘La Merveille’ or ‘The Wonder’ – to Saint Malo, the Emerald Coast boasts some of the highest tides in Europe. These tides mean you can take long walks in the sea air, on shorelines whose outstanding heritage is handed to you on a plate, garnished with oysters, mussels – and castle fortresses.
- Southern Brittany Morbihan Gulf (2 h by car)
Enjoy the gentle pace of life on the Gulf’s islands, discover megalithic secrets and half-timbered houses, experience the thrills of ocean racing, picnic at the isle of Groix on the deck of a traditional sailboat, and take a stroll along the banks of the Blavet and Scorff rivers. Southern Brittany-Gulf of Morbihan offers experiences you’ll never forget!
Belle-Ile-en Mer !!
- Brest terres océanes (3 h by car)
Set out from Europe’s biggest harbour on a journey to discover the islands, the beaches, the cliffs and the nautical activities that add an extra sparkle to this magnificent coastal destination.
- Brittany Loire Ocean (1 hour by car)
From the river to the coast, everything this area has to offer is on a grand scale. Huge open spaces lead you to amazing marsh landscapes. The coastline is made up of endless sandy beaches. Cruise liners appear suddenly from a wide estuary. This is a region to be discovered at a gentle pace, on bike, on foot or on the water.
- Normandy
There are many sites, museums and memorials relating to 6th June 1944 and to the Battle of Normandy that followed, in Normandy.
- Museum of French Emigration to Canada (Musée de l'émigration française au Canada)
- Paris : Only an hour and half by TGV
