Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

MEMBERS SINCE 2008
Overlooking the picturesque harbour of Tutukaka, the diving capital of New Zealand, our home is situated on some of the most spectacular coastline in the country.
Just three hours from Auckland and thirty minutes from the city of Whangarei and its airport, we are well placed for visits and day trips to the rest of Northland, including Paihia, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Russell, all part of the renowned Bay of Islands. Tours to 90 mile beach and Cape Reinga can be undertaken from Paihia.

The historic Kauri Museum is within easy driving distance of Tutukaka, and daily trips by boat are available to the Poor Knights Islands, which have been ranked as the best sub-tropical diving in the world.

Apart from diving, the Islands also contain the biggest sea cave in the world and a giant sea arch. Swimming, snorkeling and kayaking are all part of the days outing, so there is something for everyone.

Sport fishing is also a major undertaking from Tutukaka and catches of Marlin and Kingfish etc are recorded regularly.

Photos show views from the house and also some of the local scenery.

We can do non-simultaneous exchanges if necessary.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

We live on a private cul de sac but because it is rural we have no immediate neighbours. No one can see our windows or our outdoor living areas, and we can’t see theirs. The nearest village, Tutukaka is at the head of the harbour, 3 kms by car, 1 km by kayak. There are 2 restaurants and two other eating places, both serving bar type meals. Good for diving charters, fishing charters, and surf lessons and board hire. The nearest surf beach is 12 kms away at Matapouri. Keen surfers will know of Sandy Bay.
The next village is Ngunguru, there is a cafe, and a sports complex with golf, tennis, fitness gym, bowls and restaurant. Good for swimming and water sports, there are kayaks, paddle boards and wind surfers for hire.
We are 30 minutes by car from Whangarei and 2 hours from Paihia and the Bay of Islands.
