We are a retired couple (Ina was an Accountant and Hank was a Scientist) who have lived in New Zealand since 1982). We came originally from The Netherlands, born in Amsterdam, and lived our married live in the western part of Brabant. There we raised our two children, before emigrating to New Zealand.
We both love nature, beach and bush walks and cycling. We love to travel and discover beautiful places and meet other like-minded people in the world.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Rotorua is in the Central North Island and is the most popular tourist destination. It also has a temperate climate, which makes for long summers.
Our place is in a quiet sub-urban setting with mostly one-level housing on western side of the CBD. Close to parks and neighbourhood shops and plenty of takeaways for an easy meal. We’re about 4km away from CBD (any shopping you like, plenty restaurants, theatre and cinemas and, of course, lake facilities, while Rotorua is surrounded by large recreational forests (walking, hiking, mountain biking) and many recreational lakes and rivers (sailing, swimming, fishing, etc.)
A bit further away (within 1 hour drive North) endless beaches (Bay of Plenty, like Tauranga, Whakatane, etc.), while 1 hour South you reach Taupo with the biggest Lake of New Zealand (every possible type of watersport) and big forests for endless hiking (make sure you don’t get lost!!).
About 3 hours drive South you will find Mount Ruapehu, with endless skiing facilities in winter and Great Walks in Alpine conditions during all other seasons.
Attractions
Rotorua is a tourist Mecca, with all kinds of attractions and events, for every type of budget. World famous for its unique Maori culture and food, and thermal activities, plus geysers in several areas, but also has large sport facilities, like swimming pools, large indoor and outdoor sport complexes, a stadium and many mountain bike tracks. There is also a gondola ride (Skyline Skyrides) with big restaurant up Mount Ngongotaha with great luge rides, while at the same place at the foot of the mountain is Rainbow and Fairy Springs with a Kiwi enclosure and hatchery, native birds and plants, trout hatchery, etc, etc.
