We are a professional couple in our 50's, been many years with wanderlust, enjoying travelling all over the globe :-) Other than working hard and traveling whenever we can, we like to go to the gym, do yoga, eat out at our favorite cafes and restaurants and attend the local theatre productions. We are tidy, conscientious people with strong family values, super proud of our lovely blended family: 4 adult children who have now left home, all young professionals, making their own way in the world. Our family are good fun, close-knit and every couple of years we rent a big property overseas and share a holiday together.
Although we are new to this particular website, we have almost a decade's experience of travelling via Airbnb, with approx 25 trips registered in that time and many glowing testimonials and reviews from their hosts. Having said that, we are delighted to discover the home-exchange option and this will be our preferred way of travel from here on in.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Cute, cosy and comfortable in coastal paradise. You'll enjoy your stay in our newly-renovated cottage on a full section just a few minutes walk (approx 300 metres) down to the beautiful ocean beach of Orewa in North Auckland. Our home is tidy, modernised and clean with a mix of dark polished wooden floors and carpeting throughout. It has a bagged-brick exterior and new roof. The home is well-loved and lived-in, having been owned by the family for almost 25 years, with two of our four children born and raised here.
It has 3 bedrooms, sunny and warm, one doubles as a home-office for us but has a comfortable pull-out double bed. Each of the bedrooms (along with the main living areas) open up onto decks outside, creating a lovely indoor/outdoor flow that is especially appreciated in summer time. Wide wooden decks run the whole length of the rear side of the house and are ideal for entertaining, complete with BBQ, and 2 x dining tables. The house is situated on a 1/4 acre section with plenty of rolling lawn for the kids to play.
We live in a quiet, established neighborhood, with a peaceful outlook at the rear over to rural land and trees. Just a short drive up the road is Waiwera and picturesque Wendherholm, the first and perhaps most beautiful regional park in New Zealand: well worth a visit for a picnic, swim, hike or kayak.
Orewa is a sought-after home and holiday location in a prime position on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast. It is family and tourist friendly, with lots to do and a gorgeous seaside strip of trendy cafes and restaurants. There are regular community events and attractions available to enjoy and the town is known for its relaxed holiday vibe and the friendly locals. Easy motorway access to approx 20-30 mins drive (off peak-hour traffic) into Auckland central. See these links for more details...

(Note sometimes Google Maps will show our property location incorrectly as Stanmore Bay. This is a quieter neighboring suburb without the lively beach & holiday vibe that Orewa is known for).

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Orewa maintains a wonderful village atmosphere whilst hosting a sumptuous selection of restaurants and cafes, stylish gift shops and clothing shops as well as all the business and conveniences you would expect in a thriving town, all within steps of the pristine foreshore of Orewa Beach. Our neighborhood is friendly but quiet, made up many long-time residents, like ourselves, and a thriving new subdivision over the way in Hatfields Beach. Just across the road from our house is Alice Eaves Scenic Reserve, a peaceful bush-walk through a 16ha remnant of coastal kauri-broadleaf forest. A stones throw away from our house is historic Walnut Cottage cafe, where you can enjoy a lovely lunch/brunch in a tranquil setting. From our front door, it is literally minutes walk down to stunning Orewa Beach, which is known to be one of the longest (3 km) and safest beaches in Auckland. About 15 minutes walk will take you to the middle of Orewa township with a hub of trendy cafes, restaurants, shopping, parks and fun and vibrant local community events. On a Friday/Saturday evening you may like to walk into town to enjoy some of the nightlife and walk back home again. The locals here are known to be personable and welcoming and Orewa is a family and tourist friendly town.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Orewa is a coastal town centre right on nature's doorstep. Just a few minutes from the urban hub you'll find native bush and beautiful sandy beaches. The retailers in the town centre are equipped to cater for all your leisure and sporting requirements from fishing, skateboarding, cycling, snowboarding at the local Snow Planet, kiteboarding or surfing - we have it!
Want to while away a few hours among the trees? Look no further than Victor Eaves Park. Visitors have a great range of options in and around this destination. If you're eager to bump a few strokes off your score, then head over to Peninsula Golf Club. Grab your clubs, hone your swing and talk to the locals in the clubhouse. Still got time to spare? At Silverdale Pioneer Village there are plenty of tales of the past simply waiting to be told. Pay attention and you might just hear them as you stroll through the streets and paths of this age-old place.
Picturesque Wenderholm regional park is just a short drive North and well worth the visit to admire its tranquil beauty, explore the many bush-tracks, swim, picnic and kayak.
For those 'quiet days' you can eat at one of the many yummy Orewa cafes/restaurants, visit the local library or Arts Centre, enjoy the indoor swimming pool/gym/classes as a casual attendee at the local Leisure centre, zip ten mins drive up the way to a multi-cinema complex for a movie over a glass of wine & pizza, or be entertained at our local Centrestage theatre.
Orewa has many tourist attractions and travel activities with something to suit all ages, tastes and budgets. From adrenaline-pumping adventure to a relaxing day out, you will always have plenty to do here.
Note, our nearest Airport: Auckland - Jumping on a plane to Auckland International Airport (AKL) is the simplest choice for many visitors. After you've filed off the plane, you'll be just 30 miles (48 km) from Orewa.
