Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our place is the end of a row of 4 townhouses, built in 2013. It is 2 storeys with the living area and kitchen downstairs plus a toilet. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms (one king bed, one queen bed), office and bathroom. The main bedroom has a balcony and view onto a bush covered hill and gets the morning sun.

The property is located in a peaceful and very quiet complex only a 10 minute walk from central Nelson. The complex has a shared garden area with seating under the trees and a small book exchange in the pavilion.

Please note: Our home is very clean and well maintained. We take great pride in keeping it that way. We will ensure we treat your home in exactly the same way.

I AM ALLERGIC TO PETS so they cannot be part of a home exchange for us. Nor can they be brought into our house for the same reason.

We are happy to swap use of cars. There is off-street parking.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

The townhouse is part of a private development at the end of a cul-de-sac and very quiet. Having said that, it is only a 15 minute walk to the town centre. There is an excellent corner shop (dairy), takeaway and small pub just around the corner, as well as a cafe which is popular for breakfast and brunch.
There are bushwalks just behind the property and it is about a 30 minute walk to the top of the hill which is called the Centre of NZ! Great views from the top of course out across the bay to the mountains on the far side. You can meander along the tracks for a couple of hours should you wish. We are not far from the river and this is a popular walk. The river path goes from the town centre out into the countryside with the opportunity of having a refreshing dip in one of the deeper pools along the way. There is also good cycling, either on quiet roads or dedicated cycle lanes.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

The Nelson/Marlborough area is well known for outdoor activities as well as for its wine, cider and craft beers. There is the Great Taste Trail which is a 177km cycle trail taking you past many of the places, with opportunities for tasting and buying. Several companies offer guided or self-guided tours and will arrange accommodation etc. https://www.nzcycletrail.com/find-your-ride/22-great-rides/tasmans-great-taste-trail/

Then there are the walking trails of Queen Charlotte Sound (https://www.qctrack.co.nz) and Abel Tasman (https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/nelson-tasman/places/abel-tasman-national-park/things-to-do/tracks/abel-tasman-coast-track/). Both these areas also offer kayaking trips. Further away at Nelson Lakes there is the opportunity for skiing in the winter months.

There are many mountainbiking opportunities too - https://www.nelsontasman.nz/visit-nelson-tasman/things-to-do/cycling-and-mountainbiking/mountainbiking/ . There is no shortage of activities for people of all ages and interests. Nelson is a great place to base yourself.

Nelson itself has good cafes and restaurants and a vibrant Saturday market, not to mention the lovely beach at Tahunanui and slightly further away Kaiteriteri, a very popular summer resort for Kiwis.

There is an eco-sanctuary with many walks where you have the opportunity to see endangered native birds. This is not an aviary but an open sanctuary, fenced to keep out all introduced animals which prey on the native flora and fauna. Birds are free to fly in and out: https://www.brooksanctuary.org.nz/

Mapua Wharf is a popular half day excursion where there are nice cafes and restaurants and shops. About a 40 minute drive from Nelson. https://www.mapuawharf.co.nz

Or take a tour of the Pics Peanut Butter factory and sample their wares. https://www.picspeanutbutter.com/
