It’s situated in Tuindorp which means "garden village" and it lives up to that being a green and cosy neighbourhood showing the best of Dutch living. The nearby Griftpark is a real gem, our little girl loved the petting zoo. Utrecht city centre is just a short bike ride away which we really enjoyed spending time in, as it’s like a compact version of Amsterdam with all the canals, culture and independents shops, just without the hordes of tourists of the likes who are drawn to Amsterdam by the Red Light District. The family also left our house in a nice and tidy state, so all in all we had a great swapping experience!

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Utrecht, a yet undiscovered top location according to Lonely Planet https://www.lonelyplanet.com/travel-tips-and-articles/77017
Our house is situated on the corner of two quiet, one-directional streets in the most desired neighborhood for families in Utrecht. When we moved in in 2004 we brought our house to a high level of comfort and keep improving every now and then. We have a nice and sunny garden. Most energy is raised by solar panels on the roof.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live in a quiet and beautiful residential area in Utrecht called Tuindorp (litt. 'Garden village'). It was originally built in the 1930's to accomodate the management of the Dutch railways. Tuindorp is popular to live in because the tremendous amount of opportunities it has. There is a commutal trainstation just at the end of our street which gets you in 4 minutes to Urecht Central Station, the virtual nerve center of the Dutch railways. Amsterdam by train takes you less than half an hour. But when you step on a bike, within 10 minutes you hit the Dom tower or sit on a terrace alongside a canal of our historical university city. Or leaving the city within 15 minutes you find a forrest or a recreantional polder area.
So staying in our house leaves all options open to do whatever you like in a comfortable, well decorated house.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Over the last years Utrecht has gained popularity. Some journalists called it the smaller and more quiet version of Amsterdam. AUtrecht nowadays reminds us of Amsterdam when we lived there about 25 years ago. Utrecht is vibrant but not over crowded. There is a sense of excitement over te growing opportunities the city has to offer in terms of food, culture, language, shopping, site seeing, etc.
Lonely Planet put Utrecht in the top-10 of places yet to be discovered: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/travel-tips-and-articles/77017).
The Guardian sees Utecht as a holiday hotspot: https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2015/jan/03/holiday-hotspots-where-to-go-in-2015
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/06/world/europe/bicycling-utrecht-dutch-love-bikes-worlds-largest-bike-parking-garages.html
The city has nice shopping possibilities, lots of bars and restaurants, a developing city center and many cultural and historical interest sites.
Centrally located as it is, you can use Utrecht to explore big parts of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the nearest big city from our house. In only 30-45 minutes door to door you can reach the Dam Square or the Van Goghmuseum.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
We've done little over 15 exchanges, both in the Netherlands and throughout Europe (Swiss, Germany, UK, Belgium). We focus on in-between-holidays: autumn, spring, eastern, Christmas. We love both visiting big European cities and real natural places, lakes, mountains and forrest. But on the other hand, surprises are always fun. So feel free to do us your offer. We try to reply within 2 - 3 days.
