We are a couple with two lovely teenage daughters; our youngest is 16 years old, her older sister 18. As freelance journalists we work from home most of the time. We have a large garden, grow our own vegetables, keep chicken (and one rooster) and have a cat that is very easy-going and loves to be cuddled. We love to travel, read, go to concerts, spend time in the garden and cook. We're both Slow Foodies and very much interested in local cuisine.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
It's a 5 minute walk from our home to the dunes (area of outstanding natural beauty) and near the beach. For outdoor lovers and families this is a great area for mountain biking, surfing, horse riding. We're a 5 minute walk as well from the village centre, with a supermarket, organic food store, restaurants and ice cream parlor.
The house is sunny and spacious. We have a 3000 m2 garden, with trampoline and swing.
We're a 50 min drive/trainride away from Amsterdam. Historic cities Alkmaar and Haarlem are 15 minutes and 30 minutes from our house.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From our house it's a 15 minute bike ride to the beach. This part of the Netherlands has the biggest beaches, very large and unspoiled, some parts can only be reached by bike and are quiet.
Alkmaar, the closest city, is famous for it's traditional cheese market (a bit touristy though). Bergen, the village next-door, is full of art and artists.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Please leave the house neat and tidy. It's a non-smoking house. We're not too fussy about things, but we'd really appreciate it if you handle things with care. Also: we have animals (a lovely cat, plus a bunch of chicken) that need feeding and a little tender, loving, care. The chickens need to be hatched up every night, because we have foxes in our area. They reward you with fresh eggs every morning. Watering the plants and the garden would be nice.
