Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our beautiful condo on the Pacific coast of Mexico is on the 5th floor of an immaculate 6 story condo, overlooking the Marina Mazatlan. Our huge swimming pool is surrounded by palm trees, gardens, grass and numerous sun lounges and umbrellas. All are maintained by our efficient gardener.

Our condo has front and back gate security guards, 24/7, friendly neighboursand a staffed office to answer questions. .

Our car, a Toyota 2001 manual shift is not luxurious but it is reliable! Having said that, you need to be aware of two things. It seems that details like traffic lights, speed limits etc. are merely suggestions for the average Mexican driver. Traffic in the centro area is appalling and parking is limited. Therefore, we use the car to grocery shop, and go to the beach which is close by. To visit surrounding villages we would hire a driver. There are other options too, Uber is efficient, there are fun pulmonias and arugas that are plentiful. Mazatlan's beaches, the Golden Zone, and El Centro (heritage city centre) can be reached easily by an efficient bus system, right outside our front door, which is a lot easier than finding a parking spot. There are 20 restaurants within walking distance, although our condo is in a quiet neighbourhood.

We have spent up to two years at a time in our lovely condo and have been safe, welcomed, and embraced by our Mexican community. You will be too!

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Mazatlan is a vibrant Mexican city large enough to house all the amenities that make it a complete community. Its long malecon (ocean-side walk) borders a wide, sandy beach. Its El Centro is home to the cathedral, a number of plazas, galleries, restaurants, and of course a public market. Our home is a bus ride away, in a much more modern community, with its own charm. Whale watching trips and fishing boats leave from the harbor outside our door. Our own maleconita (small ocean-side walk) has restaurants close at home. Music is paramount in Maz. Any night of the week we can find a good, reasonably priced dinner and a few beer while listening, or dancing, to any musical style desired. Latin, jazz, country, or American .... it is all there. Although we can not swim in the marina outside, the beach we visit is a short drive away. Small Mexican villages, a jungle boat tour, the tequila factory or beer brewery, a modern aquarium....there is no end of ways to spend a day.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Hop on the city bus and ride into El Centro...a day passes quickly walking down charming narrow streets bordered by quaint Mexican shops. First Friday artwalk is a great way to get your bearings, but the city is easy to negotiate and fun to get lost in. Mexican restaurants serve piping hot molcajetes, the higher end restaurants are classy but casual. Or you can pick up a kilo of fresh shrimp or fish and take it home to eat on the veranda, overlooking the sunset. A whole day could be spent exploring this area. Or, you might chose to stay close to home, walking the 6 kms. to Cerritos for a great feed of shrimp and back along the beach perhaps walking through the lobbies of the hotels.O walk one way, and bus home the other. Golfers need go no father that across the road. Fishermen can go out for the day deep sea fishing and bring home dorado, marlin, yellow fin tuna, cobina or swordfish....the boats are right outside the gate. Whatever you choose to do, you will enjoy!

Our favourite restaurants

  • Panchos...on the beach, or on Sabalo
  • Nautica..higher end, lovely waterside setting
  • Gaia...in the Plazuela Machado. Beautiful setting, great food.

Cafés & bars

  • Ricos...walk down the street for great breakfasts.
  • Bremster's beach bash at Diego's Tuesdays.
  • Wendy's....a very fun night of music and dancing.

Special places to shop

  • the zona dorado ...Golden Zone
  • El Centro for souvenirs etc.

Leisure and cultural activities

  • Angela Peralta theatre for symphony, theatre etc.
  • The Venados baseball...a hoot! Carribean league.
  • Carnaval...the 3rd largest in the world! February.

Walks or jogging paths

  • Walk north to Cerritos...
  • Walk east to the Golden zone and malecon
  • Walk north to Walmart, Sams, and Liverpool. But why?

Interesting day trips

  • King David tours of small Mexican villages
