My husband and I are a retired couple who spend part of the year in our home near Nelson BC Canada, shared with our daughter, her husband and their two sons aged 6 and 8 years old, and the winter months in San Miguel de Allende. We enjoy spending our summers in Nelson sharing time with our family, gardening and exploring the beautiful province we live in. During our time in San Miguel we do volunteer work at Escuela de Educación Especial de San Miguel de Allende, a non profit that provides education and job skills to deaf young people. San Miguel also provides a great stepping off point to travel spots in Latin America. So far we have seen Cuba, Peru, Guatemala and Costa Rica and wish to next visit Colombia.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
San Antonio Norte is one of most popular neighbourhoods to stay in San Miguel de Allende. It is not only centrally located but also boasts relatively flat, therefore easy, walking to many popular attractions. Colonia San Antonio neighbourhood is a great mix of Mexican and expat residences. You will enjoy interacting with friendly Spanish and English speaking neighbours. The street is very quiet and as the house is set back from the street, this adds even more privacy and calm.
Getting around
It is not necessary and can sometimes be a detriment to own or drive and park a car in San Miguel de Allende. The city is known as a "walking town". Taxis are readily available by hailing them on the street and are inexpensive at 35-50 pesos ($2-$4) per ride depending on the distance and time of day. There is street parking available but also a secure parking lot just 2 blocks from the residence.
