I am a teacher with two daughters, 25 and 16, who are taking turns accompanying me on my travels. My 25 year old daughter lives in Edmonton; at home, there is me, my 16 yr old daughter Camille, and our two dogs. Camille and I did our first exchange in 2016, to Bath, and had a wonderful time driving around Somerset and Wiltshire and visiting many National Trust locations. My girls and I love being tourists - exploring and experiencing whatever the area has to offer. We love museums, coffee shops, people watching, and the ocean! We can also spend time reading and relaxing, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the home of our Bath exchange partners.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We live in a small town, with easy access to Edmonton (1 hr), Red Deer (30 min), and Calgary (2.5 hr). Driving in Alberta is required and fun - excellent roads that are wide, straight, and flat (100-120 mph). Alberta is known for its camping, music and cultural festivals, rodeo, and beautiful Rocky Mountains. Albertans are open and friendly people, and the community is safe and close-knit. For those who love driving, pack up and head over the Rockies to our west coast neighbor British Columbia or even the NE United States and if you're really adventurous, Canada's North or Alaska! Of course, flying might be your preference - luckily we are 45 min from the airport and I can arrange rides for you, to and from the airport, if needed. Of course, there are many things to do right here - a 3 hour drive will take you to desert badlands in the south, beautiful craggy mountains in the west, dense boreal forest in the north, and wide unending prairies to the east. You can choose city experiences, like concerts, cultural festivals, and fine dining, or you can choose to take a picnic lunch and explore the countryside, local lakes, and welcoming farms. Our short, precious summer is jam-packed with community events, so you''ll never lack for things to do!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We live on a quiet, safe street in Ponoka, a town of about 7000 people. We have two groceries, three pharmacies, three hardwares, a gym/workout facility, tennis courts, indoor pool, baseball and soccer fields - all the usual amenities in a family-oriented municipality. In the first week of July, we host a 7-day professional rodeo, complete with live entertainment and an amusement fair with rides and food that's bad, but oh-so-good! Golf is very popular in Alberta - there are about 80 golf courses within a 2 hour drive (I'm not even exaggerating). Alberta's summer weather is very reliable - you can count on early morning sunshine, a late afternoon storm, and a clear evening. Temperatures are warm, but very comfortable, because our climate is quite dry. At any rate, it's not hard to find some air conditioning, because we Albertans love our shopping malls and movie theatres. There are many local lakes with day-use areas where you can take a picnic and spend the day lazing and people-watching. Our capital city, Edmonton, has the largest urban park system in Canada, with more than 160 km of maintained trails for walking, biking, blading, and boarding. Also within driving distance are three National Parks- Jasper, Banff, and Elk Island - offering camping, cycling, hiking, and watchable wildlife. Alberta's summer absolutely bustles with activity - it's easy to find a farmer's market, music venue, street party, rodeo, or cultural celebration where everyone is welcome and there's lots of free parking. Travel Alberta is a free government agency with friendly staff on the phone who will connect you with any type of adventure and help you find accommodations and event tickets. And don't forget, here in Canada, our summer days have nearly 17 hours of daylight!
