Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our home is centrally located on beautiful Vancouver Island. We have 5 acres in a rural area about a 15 minute drive from the main town of Nanaimo. The living area is all on one floor with a large open area kitchen and living room with adjoining covered deck and patio. There are 2 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms situated on the main floor. Downstairs with a separate entrance is a 1 bedroom suite occupied by a tenant. A small cottage on the property is also occupied by tenants.
There are flower gardens as well as fenced vegetable garden to keep out the many deer that roam the area. We grow a variety of vegetables as well as assorted berry bushes. We've planted a few apple trees that we hope will produce lots of fruit once they mature.
Our 3 alpacas have the run of most of the rest of the property and do a good job of keeping the natural vegetation well trimmed.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

We are located in a quiet country area. From our house it is a short walk to a local park with lots of walking trails and beach access nearby. A busy pub within walking distance or short drive is located nearby which is a popular to locals and tourists alike. In addition, arguably Nanaimo's best restaurant is just round the corner. Beaches, walking trails, golf courses, pubs and restaurants are all close by as well as a convenient grocery store. From May to October there is a busy farmer's market every Sunday just outside the pub. A popular Sunday activity is to buy local produce and goods at the market and then enjoy lunch in the pub's beautiful garden. Nanaimo offers all the amenities, lots of shopping, restaurants, sea walks, and more beaches. Boat rentals are available as well as fishing and whale watching and scuba diving charters. Vancouver Island offers the best cold water scuba diving in the world and is a popular destination for scuba divers. There are lots of opportunities for day trips, including the Oceanside towns of Parksville, Qualicum and don't miss Coomb. Or, take in the wineries in the Cowichan Valley. Cycling along the Cowichan River and then stopping for lunch at one of the Vineyards is a lovely day trip. Mount Washington ski resort is a 90 minute drive north, and Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia and a busy tourist destination, is a 90 minute drive south. Enjoy museums, galleries, shops, restaurants and site seeing in the Provincial capital. A 2 hour drive to the Island's wild west coast are the resort towns of Tofino and Uclulet where surfing is a popular activity. BC's largest city, Vancouver is a 90 minute ferry ride or a 20 sea plane trip.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

Everything you need will be supplied and the home will be in clean, tidy and orderly condition. We wish it to be left as neat and tidy and clean as it was when you arrived. A house keeper/cleaner is available on departure if you wish someone to clean and wash all linen on your departure. There will be a fee of maximum $200 depending on length of stay and number of guests. Rubbish removal and recycling is at the end of the driveway on set dates. We have an elderly cat that would require care. In addition, we have sheep and alpacas that we would make arrangements for their care unless the exchange guests were open to tending to the outdoor animals.
