Sabine & Colin have a beautiful home set on a large lot along the coast of the south shore. It is welcoming and very comfortable indeed. Their eye for detail is to be admired. Sabine’s artwork is featured on the walls. Unfortunately, devastating forest fires had hit several areas in Nova Scotia during our 3 week exchange & this caused many communities to be evacuated. While the fires did not affect Hunts Point directly, road closures and evacuations in general meant many spots were closed. With this in mind, we are unable to comment on sightseeing in their area… however, one outstanding destination/meal was Quarterdeck Grill where we enjoyed two delicious dinners. We had the use of their older Honda Fit. While this vehicle drove well & provided a comfortable ride, we were unable to lock it. This was a bit problematic when we had shopping inside & were out for the day. They had organized an easy-to-follow procedure for obtaining their car at the Halifax airport & leaving it there upon our departure. We thank them for this exchange.

This exchange was truly wonderful. Hunts Point and the whole of Nova Scotia is just so beautiful. We spent a lot of time walking on the white sand beaches of which there are numerous within a short drive from the house. Two lovely beaches are within walking distance. Sometimes we had the beaches to ourselves! Our whole time there was just so relaxing and everything went like a dream. We visited lots of little quaint old historic villages with quirky cafes and restaurants (serving delicious fresh fish). The little craft shops and small art galleries most of the villages have are worth a browse round. We spent a few days in Halifax the capital. Halifax is only two hours drive but best to stay a few nights as there is lots to see there. We went to Brier Island, also only 2 hours or so drive, and went whale watching which was a real highlight. We saw lots of whales. One very friendly whale swam so near the boat we could have stroked him. He spouted water and we all got wet!!! We also saw dolphins and sealions there. Nova Scotia is also a birdwatchers paradise. We left at the end of September and the leaves were just starting to change colour. When autumn really sets in the colours must be spectacular. This really is a little slice of heaven! Wow, what a wonderful exchange! Colin and Sabine's immaculate and beautifully decorated home was well located between some of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been to. Sabine's kitchen is a work of art. Communication was easy and we would love to come back to see more of Nova Scotia. We took our time and did not need to go far - within easy reach was Liverpool with everything you need. Historic and picturesque Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Chester can be reached quickly on the highway or you can meander and get there more slowly, exploring as you go. The many small coves, peninsulas and beaches make the coastline great for slow exploring (plenty of walks and swims along the way) and leave you wanting to return. It made us rethink our retirement plans...
