Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

***Unfortunately, we won't be able to start planning any exchanges until 30 June 2024, and look forward to resuming making arrangements at that time***

Our “cabin” is a well-appointed 3 bedroom home with a loft. It is situated on the Similkameen River, fronting on a beach next to the swimming hole. There are 2 bedrooms with queen beds, 1 bedroom with a queen, and 2 single beds, a double hide-a-bed in the loft, and a queen hide-a-bed in the living room. It has pine ceilings, slate and wooden floors and an outdoor deck area that overlooks the grassy yard, the forested mountainside and the river. We enjoy a wood-burning fireplace that provides heat in the winter. The river is quite brisk, but is a great place to swim when the weather is hot! Neighbours are very friendly and a favourite pastime is walking and chatting. Phone and wifi is only available through your portable device, through the local provider, Telus, which may make connection a challenge. We have always enjoyed being "off the grid" in the mountains as phone access has only been available in the last 2 years, and internet only through the phone. We are 2-3 hours East of Vancouver (the opposite direction from Whistler) and are away from crowds. Skiing in winter (December to the end of March) is 20 minutes from the cabin (downhill and cross-country). There is ungroomed cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking directly from the cabin, depending on the snow conditions. In summer, there is canoeing on Lightning Lake in Manning Park, 20 minutes away, as well as many wilderness hikes in Manning Park and in the local mountains of the neighbourhood. This is a wilderness area, and we are in a quiet neighbourhood of 75 homes in the mountains.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

This neighbourbood is on the dry, sunny side of the mountains 2 hours from Vancouver. There are pine trees, mountainside and quiet paved roads. You can bike around the neighbourhood, or walk, and you can walk up the river into Manning Park. The neighbourhood is set in a wilderness area, so we rarely see a bear, coyotes or foxes. There is hiking into the mountains at the top of the upper end of the neighbourhood. In the winter, skiing at Manning park is 30 minutes away by car and the snow is usually dry powder. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing can be done from our doorstep, as well as in the Park. In summer, there are numerous hiking trails in Manning Park, as well as in the neighbourhood. This is a very quiet area, with other neighbouring cabins in a very small community in the mountains 2 hours from our home in Langley. Lightning Lake is 10 minutes away, with hiking and canoeing. Neighbours love to chat and are very helpful. There is a tiny store at the gas station in the community with small quantities of sundries, useful if you forget something.
