Orvieto, Spoleto, Narni, Todi are only 45 min or less away by car. Tarquinia and its superb Etruscan tombs can be reached in 1,5 hours. Orte train station is only a 25 min drive away and has direct train to Rome. Highly recommended.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
My residency is located inside the historical center of Amelia, one of the most ancient walled towns founded in Italy: 1134 b.C. (as Cato the Elder reports), even before Rome. It appears as a pretty medieval village just on the hilltop, sorrounded with the classical green mediterranean maquis, a real paradise for birdwatchers. You may perceive here the omnipresent whisper of thousands years of history.
Amelia has one of the most ancient and impressive city walls in Europe, a theatre, a museum where you can admire the bronze statue of the roman general Germanico, the enchanting Marmore falls with its 165 mt drop at only 30 km of distance, the fossil forest of Dunarobba, dated back of millions years. Spoleto is 50 km far from here, Rome 90 km.
Amerine people are simple, peaceful, keen on family, generally bashful.
Here you may taste genuine food and appetizing countryside cuisine. A particular mention to local wine and olive oil, whose quality is renowned since the roman age.
Connections are not so good: the nearest railway station is Orte Scalo (20 km), where you may catch a coach. A car is needed if you want to explore the beautiful surroundings: actually I am considering the eventuality to exchange my car too, but I didn't decide yet.
My housing is an old independent three level building: 3 cellars with a very small internal garden, a kitchen, a library, a living room with a fireplace, 1 bathroom (no shower), 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 2 single beds.
It is a popular, originally rural construction upon wich the flow of time has layed down its mark, it is still in good conditions, but absolutely neither elegant nor quite fair, especially in its interiors.
