Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

We live in a semi-detached house on a quiet residential street. We have a lovely sunny south-facing garden with patio area for eating out when the weather is good. The garden is sheltered from the neighbours by trees and hedges. Upstairs there is a bathroom with electric shower and bath tub, two bedrooms each with a double bed, and one smaller room with a desk and a sofa bed which fits one adult or 2 children. Downstairs there is a bright kitchen-dining area at the back of the house and a comfortable TV/sitting room at the front, as well as under-stair storage. The house is small (114m sq.) but cosy. The neighbours are friendly (many of them elderly). The garage at the side of the house provides additional storage for bikes, garden furniture, etc. Please ignore the cats in the photos and some reviews - they have now moved on to their eternal home in the sky!

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our neighbourhood has the best of both worlds - it's very quiet but close to everything at the same time. The house is on a quiet residential street around the corner from The Lough, a much loved local amenity and nature reserve where you can feed the ducks, geese and swans, visit the playground, or join the locals for a stroll. You can walk to Cork city centre (15 minutes), University College Cork (10 minutes) and beautiful Fitzgerald Park which runs alongside the lovely river Lee (15 minutes). We normally walk or cycle everywhere. There are three supermarkets close by: Supervalu is a 2-minute walk around the corner while Aldi and Lidl are both 2 minutes away by car. Also within 2 minutes’ walk are a pharmacy, Chinese restaurant and takeaway, discount store, barber, hairdresser, and a family-friendly pub.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Cork is Ireland's second city with good public transport links. The international airport is just 10 minutes by car from our house. The city has a laid-back friendly atmosphere, and sometimes feels more like a small town than a city. At the same time there are excellent restaurants and shops, plus the famous English Market which is unique in Ireland. There are plenty of cultural activities going on (cinema, theatre, family events, etc.) Fitzgerald Park is a popular place to go for a picnic or a walk, with a fantastic playground, followed by lunch or coffee in the park’s delicious cafe by the river. A 30-minute drive will take you to the beautiful seaside towns of Kinsale or Crosshaven. From Cork city you can take day trips to spectacular countryside in West Cork, Kerry or Tipperary – all within an hour by car. Fota Wildlife Park is 20 minutes away by car.
