Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

The house is very quiet, detached, surrounded by green fields and bordered by the river Shannon. It is a short walk to Tarmonbarry on the river Shannon with restaurants , Bars and shops. Clondra is also a short walk away with Bars, Harbour, Canal and great walks along the canal. Lough Rynn Castle Hotel is a short drive away with a good restaurant, afternoon tea and woodland walks with great views of the large lake. Belverdre House is 60 kms to the east with its gardens and a Children's magical fairy garden.
The Corlea Trackway is an Iron Age trackway, or "togher", near the village of Keenagh, south of Longford town. It was constructed from oak planks in 148–147 BC. The National Famine Museum at Strokestown House (15km west of the house) tells the story of the Famine of 1845-1850.
The famous Foxford Woolen Mills is 90km to the west, still a working Mill, weaving, rugs, blankets, and with an excellent shop with unique, original Irish products and a great cafe. Galway city is easily reached (108 km to the west), with its cultural attractions, Connemara and wild Irish west route. Sligo and Yeats country is also easily reached (85km) to the west.
