We are a self employed couple with two teenagers, aged 15 and 17. Whilst we are based in Cork city, Allihies is very much our second home. We are lovers of walking, swimming, art and traditional music, all of which are to be found in abundance on Beara (in normal times anyway!).

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Three bedroom family holiday home in Allihies village. Located between mountains and sea, on the stunning Beara peninsula in County Cork, this is our home from home. A place to chill, walk, swim, enjoy the local pubs, visit Dzogchen Beara Meditation Centre, visit local Artists’ galleries, ride on Ireland’s only cable car to Dursey Island, the list goes on and on! This is one of West Cork’s hidden gems and is lately part of the Wild Atlantic Way.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Allihies is a tiny village on the tip of the South West coast, everyone knows everyone! There are three pubs (one serving food), one shop, a lovely little playground and a basketball court. An old church has been converted into the Allihies Mines Museum, cafe and Art Gallery. There are endless walks and swimming spots. Nearby are a Horse riding centre, heritage tours, artists galleries and the Dzogchen Beara Buddhist Centre sits on the rugged cliffs nearby. The town of Castletownbere, one of Ireland’s larges fishing ports is 20 minutes drive away. Here, you’ll find shops, restaurants, bars and a regular market. Within driving distance are the buzzing town of Kenmare and in the opposite direction the Adrigole Sailing & Kayaking centre.
