Lots of nature and culture. A typicly Dutch site: it is lovely to take your bike to the river and travel over the dikes, swim in the river or roam in the fields. But there are also areas where you can find hills, with beautyful forests around them. Biodiversity in Nijmegen is second only to the islands in the north. Nijmegen is the oldest Dutch city, as it was once a Roman settelement. In fact, the site where the Roman fort was located is near our house. In the exact spot were our house is situated now, in Roman times there used to be a tavern.
It is a lively city, lots of students, and therefore pubs and restaurants can be found everywhere.
Within a hour you can visit the main Dutch cities like Utrecht, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. You can visit Burgers Zoo, Netherlands Open-Air Museum, National park HogeVeluwe with the Kröller-muller museum (the van Gogh collection is fantastic, the second largest in the world).
