Description of the home we are offering for exchange
In the 16th/17th historic centre of Leiden, on a 10 min. walking distance to the train station (direct connection to Schiphol Airport-all cities), we welcome you in our quiet old city dwelling. On the ground floor we have a music/family/TV room and a homey kitchen with a view on a small courtyard. On the first floor is a convenient study, also serving as master bedroom, a second bedroom and a bathroom (bath, shower, lavatory, WC). At the second floor two bedrooms (1p, 2p.) and enough space for an extra bed, a laundry room and additional bathroom (shower, WC, lavatory) serve the needs of many.
Leiden, the oldest university town in the Netherlands, has a great deal to offer. Its green surroundings, near the sea and close to lakes- offer plenty of ways to sport and relax. There are very nice sailing schools for children, offering different courses. In the city you can enjoy the high standing collections of The National Museums of World Cultures, Natural History and Antiquity, botanical gardens, the wonderful renovated just re-opened Lakenhal (17th century masters up to contemporary art), Japanese collections at Sieboldt House; Museum Voorlinden for contemporary art, Museum Boerhaave; and small city museums dedicated to the history of pilgrim fathers, weaving/ textile traditions, an art deco cinema, concert-rooms, libraries, parks, playgrounds, canals and great shops are on a walking distance. Chique residential The Hague (11 min. by train & tram connection to the beach) and trendy Rotterdam (35 min.by train) are also near.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
In the ‘Pieterskwartier’, the quarter around the Church of St. Peters, one senses history everywhere in a quiet atmosphere close to the dynamics of modern city life. One of the gems being the Hortus Botanicus (https://www.pieterskwartier.nl/content/home). The quiet street where we live parallels the main Rapenburg canal; from our house it's a less than a minute walk to the medieval 'Gerecht' (courts of justice) with at the corner a jewel of a terrace of 't Suppiershuysinge overviewing the square. Just around the corner the many streets with particular nice shops, galleries and restaurants lead to Leiden’s main street, the Breestraat. The Wednesday's and Saturdays market is famous for its cheese, flowers, fish and vegetables. It’s a lovely city to wander through the alleyways and to pop in the many attractive almshouses, reminiscences of the 17th century social housing system. In the nearby harbour (5 min wak) you may rent an electric boat, which brings you to the most unexpected canals and lakes around the city. 't Joppe and Vlietlanden are great places for daytrips with picknicks on the beach. The North Sea beach is close and the centres of Amsterdam (30 min) The Hague (20) and Rotterdam (40) are easy accessible by train. To avoid the huge parking rates- you’d better off by train, even if travelling with 3 persons- with day- and night connections.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
It would be great if you can look after our cat Sumaya, indeed resembling an eastern princess. She is lively and a bit shy, and loves the sunny places in the house and easy to look after. If you return home late, she's fine having her food somewhat later. Like you, we appreciate it very much if you keep the house with care. There's much comfort, although no luxury: it's an old house where renovation projects are spread over the years. The street is quiet, wich means that playing football gives resonance: our children play football in the nearby playing fields. Smoking is not aloud in the house and patio. For the summer period (July 11th-August 15th) we're open for non-simultaneous exchange. We'd love to find an exchange from 21st Feb-28th Feb, or from 2nd -9th of May.
