We are Monika and Heinz-Uwe. We have been artistically active since our retirement. Monika has a ceramics workshop and Heinz-Uwe is a passionate photographer and recently also a ceramist. Before that, Monika worked in banking and Heinz-Uwe as head of the cultural education department. We had traveled all over Europe and Canada with Homelink a few years ago. This year we're going to try again. Five years ago we moved from the center of Berlin to the south-eastern part of the city. Grünau lies on the one hand between water and forest and on the other hand close to the city of Berlin. Life here is much more relaxed than in the center, especially now during the pandemic. At the same time, our beloved city of Berlin with its many attractions and offers is only a good half hour away.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our apartment is on the top floor of a three-story residential building from 1925. It has four rooms, each with a small terrace facing east, south and west, altogether 130 square meters. The river Dahme flows behind the house. Around the corner you will find a health food store, a supermarket and a historic café with an Art Nouveau interior. Petanque is played in the small park. You can reach the center of Berlin by public transport in just 40 minutes.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
The whole region is very idyllic, characterized by water, forest and many small, contemplative places. In the immediate vicinity of Grünau you will find small historical towns such as Köpenick and, located on the great Müggelsee, Friedrichshagen. Here you can walk on cobblestones past beautiful house facades, browse in small boutiques or sit down in restaurants directly on the water.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
The Dahme River, which flows behind the house, is connected to nearby lakes and other rivers. You can rent a boat, a SUP or a raft. The nearby forest invites you to discover it on foot or by bike. In the forest you will find a historic restaurant with a beer garden. Two public bathing beaches are in the immediate vicinity, but you can also just jump into the water behind the house. You will find a ferry around the corner. A tram takes you to Köpenick, a picturesque historic town, in 10 minutes. A five-minute walk takes you to the regatta grandstand of the 1936 Olympic Games. The motorway can be reached in a few minutes and takes you quickly to the city center and to scenic and culturally interesting places in the area, e.g. Potsdam in 45 minutes, Hamburg or Dresden in two hours.
