Read More...We stayed in the lovely house of Birke, Marcel, Alexander and Rosalie. The Harz area is unknown in Belgium, but what a surprise!!!!! The area is known by Dutch and German tourists. It is a very lovely area. You have the hils/mountains, forest, citylife, cultural activities, ... You can have an active or passive vacation. We choose the active version: nice walks, even climbed the Brocken, kano tour, biking to the city, swimming in the Hasserode exotic swimmingpool, shopping in Wernigerode, eating Baumkuche, visiting the former GDR area and museum, ... The house was superb. Great view because it is located on a hill. Very clean and well equiped. Nice terrace to relax, a garden to play or chill, quiet and dark bedrooms with good beds. Birke and Marcel are very lovely people, ready to help whenever you have a question. They have taken care of our house very well even with some bad luck of electricity failure. We can recommand the house and area to all home-exchangers.

The sound of the steam train and the view on the Castle of Wernigerode are certainly bonus points! The wide view from the house is beautiful. The location is perfect to visit Unesco world heritage such as the cities of Goslar and Quedlinburg or to make beautiful walks in the Harz with only a short drive. The nearby located subtropical swimming pool provided repeatedly for entertainment for young and old. Our house was perfectly clean upon return and our plants were taking care for. Thanks once again for this amazing home exchange and for the nice conversations, as well as with your parents!

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
modern house with nice views in a beautiful old town
Our house is located on the outskirts of a historic city. In the immediate vicinity are hiking and biking trails. The garden with a fireplace is big enough to relax and playing football.
Our city has a historic center with a beautiful town hall. The castle can be reached on foot, in a horse carriage or mini-train. Through our beautiful city runs a steam train, than through the woods to the highest mountain in northern Germany, the Blocksberg. The town is to reach walking distance or easily reached by bus.
In a tv-ranking Wernigerode was voted one of the most beautyful cities in germany. In 2011 were counted 3 million visitors in our town. This is really a lot for a 40 thousand residents city. Our city is small but lively.
The surroundings are touristic. It is a low mountain range with the legendary Blocksberg, on which former witch rituals were held. Even today, in the Walpurgis Night, the spring is greeted and celebrated with witches and devils in every age. In the immediate vicinity are many small towns with attractions such as glass-bottom cable cars, caves, tree-lined trails, climbing parks, segway tours or double-rope slides. Close are also the unesco world cultural heritage cities Quedlinburg or Goslar (both 20 min by car) or the Martin Luther town Wittenberg with the Reformation church.
Due to its location in the middle of Germany Berlin is easily accessible or other larger cities such as Hannover, Dresden, Leipzig or Braunschweig.
Hannover is in 1.5 hours to reach, Berlin in 2.5, both by car or directly via train. Marcel has worked for a few years in Berlin, so he could give tips for a trip.
With us our cat Peterle, who is the most time outside.
