Read More...We had an excellent stay in Silvia and Volker's charming house, located in a cul-de-sac close to the countryside. We loved the very functional kitchen, the original decor, and having our meals on the large veranda overlooking the lush garden, which gave us an exotic feeling. The two bicycles at our disposal enabled us to enjoy the region, which is ideal for cycling, and to discover charming little villages such as Eppstein, Königstein and Hofheim with its aquatic complex. We loved the towns of Wiesbaden, the astonishing Frankfurt and of course the Rhine valley with its castles. We left with a green and peaceful image of this part of Germany that we didn't know before, and we were delighted to find our house just as we left it, so thank you again to Silvia and Volker for a very successful exchange.

Read More...We really enjoyed our stay in Silvia's and Volker's spacious and brightly lit house. It was strawberry season and we paid a daily visit to the strawberry hut very close to the house; they were delicious and fresh from the nearby fields. The house located at the foot of the Taunus mountains was the ideal starting point for our daily bike rides along the well marked trails through the forest and to the delightful villages of Eppstein, Lorbach, Hofheim, Oberusel and Konigstein. With our 9-euro-tickets, we took the train through the fabulous Rhine valley to Koblenz where we took a short cruise on the river and stayed overnight before taking the train back to Kelkheim. To round it all off we had the added pleasure of meeting of meeting Silvia and Volker on the last evening of our stay.

Their spacious and cosy house is located in a very nice and quiet street, surrounded by green fields and a small playground. The house itself has a very nice wintergarden. Kelkheim is a small and basic village with some impressive authenthic streets and houses. Supermarkets are nearby, so is a beautiful zoo, and old castle, more playgrounds and the city of Frankfurt. The communication was very transparant and positive and we agreed to stay in touch for a second exchange in the future.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
We love our neighbourhood. We live in a blind alley/cul de sac with a speed maximum of 30 kmh, there is not much traffic. There are families with children aging from 11 to 17. Kids can bike in the small alleys between the houses, playing football on the soccer field or visit the small playground. Supermarkets like Aldi, Lidl or Rewe are nearby - you can walk or bike, too. Butcher and baker are within walking distance as are our favourite restaurants. Kelkheim is situated on the foothills of the Taunus so we have hills and forest nearby. Walking, cycling, climbing, swimming, shopping: there is something for everyone. We are close to one of the biggest shopping malls of Germany with more than 200 shops. Teenagers can visit trendy shops like Hollister, Zara, Superdry... Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, Heidelberg offer lots of cultural amusements. The region is famous for its UNESCO heritage like the Limes, the Rhine Valley. We have very friendly neighbours.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Let's start in Kelkheim.
There are two golf courses, two rope gardens for climbing, a funtastic indoor playground, a public swimming pool with water slide and beach volley playground plus kiosk. There are theaters and operas in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. We have loads of proposals for you!
A must see is Frankfurt's new old town (https://www.frankfurt-tourismus.de/en/Media/Events/Guided-tour-through-Frankfurts-New-Old-Town-English) - the remake of the quarter that was destroyed during World War II. It is amazing!!
In neighbouring Hofheim there is a big spa with water slides, artificial waves, sauna, fitness club, restaurants. At Backhaus Heislitz you can learn how to make brezels or your own bread.
At the Main Taunus Zentrum (shopping mall) you and your teenage kids can shop until you drop.
In Kronberg there is a very interesting private zoo where you can stay until after nightfall. Medieval and Roman castles and the Limes are nearby.
Visit the Mathematikum at Giessen or the Senckenberg museum in Frankfurt which is famous for its dinosaurs.
There are three UNESCO world heritage sites close by the Messel pit, the Rhine Valley and the Limes.
You can visit the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart or the technic museum in Sinsheim.
