We are a couple recently retired, sporty, travel and nature lovers. We have four children and seven grandchildren, but none of them live with us. We are very flexible on travel dates as well as destinations. We are interested in everything from the outset, even if our first objectives are aimed at the countries of northern Europe.

The local restaurants were great although they did close early and most were closed on Sundays and Mondays. The local beach was great and only a few minutes walk away while a larger sandy beach was about a 20 minute walk away. The water was so good! There was also a long coastal walk by the sea. The train station was about a 20 minute walk away (or a couple of bus stops). The bus cost €1 and went to the lovely coastal town of Martigues. From the station you could get to Marseille, Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and others. The apartment was well equipped. We loved having breakfast on the balcony. Patricia and Michel were great hosts and generously left us some lovely local produce on our arrival. They left our home and car squeaky clean. Thank you both.

Read More...Carro is a quaint seaside town with a coffee/wine bar, bakery, small grocery store, bike shop, twice-weekly market days, daily fish market, and lots of restaurants. And, of course, a few sandy beaches and lots of rocky access to the sea. We enjoyed the 1.4 km beach walk daily and the unpaved walk to the lighthouse, as well as the sailboarders on windy days. Martigues has a Sunday market (you can take the bus from Carro for 1EU). And the SNCF Côte d'Azur train travels hourly to Marseille for 10EU RT for two people. Patricia and Michel arranged for us to be met at the beginning and end of our two-week stay (lovely Ingrid and Emilie) and were in frequent communication both before and after our trip through email and Whats App. The home instructions and guidebooks were extremely informative. The home had everything we needed (beach chairs would have been most welcome). We highly recommend Patricia and Michel and their home in lovely Carro.

The deck was a wonderful place to have breakfast in the morning. Easy access and good parking. Carro is an authentic town on the French Riviera with a fisherman’s market and wonderful walking paths along the coast. There is a fabulous sandy beach within 10 minutes of walking from the condo. Great places to eat and reasonably priced. We especially liked the Thai restaurant!

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
The small beach of Carro is in the center of the village 5 minutes walk from the accommodation, a much larger beach is about 10 minutes away. The small fishing port is 200 from the house and offers a fish market by local fishermen every morning. Numerous hiking trails by the sea or under the pines allow to discover on foot the rocky coast and its coves. The city of Martigues (Venice Provençale) is 10 km away and major cities such as Marseille, Aix-en-Provence or Arles are about 30 minutes with a car : Les Baux de Provence, Avignon, le Lubéron, la Camargue, les calanques de Marseille et de Cassis, la montagne Sainte Victoire and les Alpilles, for example . You will also find bike paths and the possibility to rent a boat to go fishing. The region’s wealth of tourism makes it possible to visit different places every day within a radius of 1 to 2 hours by car. The place enjoys exceptional sunshine throughout the year.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Carro and la Couronne offers several restaurants and pizzerias. About 10 km away, there is an amusement park. The city of Martigues has an important cultural program, but the main cultural and artistic places are located in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, les Baux de Provence, Arles and Avignon. The main physical activities are related to water and nature sports. There are also a lot of hiking possibilities, in the creeks of Marseille and Cassis, the mountain of Saint Victoire, the Alpilles the Luberon with castles, the national parc of Camargue...

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
It is important for us to find back our house like we let it.
In july and August, it's very difficult for us to exchange, because our children ask us for the apartment to come with our grandchildren, and we give us priority. If around June, we know there will be a few weeks free in july or agust, we could consider an exchange.
