Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

We are in the heart of rural Perigord Blanc in the beautiful Dordogne and you need a car to make the most of your stay. Our nearest small town is St Astier with it's 1000 year old pilgrim history, beautiful riverside setting and a fabulous (not to be missed) weekly market.

We're between Bergerac and Perigueux, both historically important and beautiful cities. Our nearest towns (for all services) are St Astier (12km) and Neuvic (10km) - in our village there is a bakery, a small shop for essentials (and a very small weekly market) and 4 bar/restaurants.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

An hour (or less) in any direction will take you to the vineyards at Monbazillac, Saussignac and St Emilion, historically stunning locations like Brantome, Hautefort, Beynac (home of Richard the Lionheart) and the medieval chateau along the Dordogne Valley, discover the UNESCO town of Sarlat, the pre-historic treasures at Les Eyzies and so much more! There are more chateau here than the Loire, the highest concentration of UNESCO sites and more Beaux Village de France than any other area in France.

For relaxation there are the walks and horse-riding and for water enthusiasts you can canoe or spend a day at Lake Jemaye with it's fabulous man-made beach. And for food lovers we have a 400 year old walnut mill (where our walnuts go to make oil), black truffles, artisan chocolate, michelin star restaurants and even a caviar farm!

We're located a few kilometres from the Camino de Santiago and there is a Voie Vert walking path in St Astier. And Bordeaux is an easy day trip on the train (1 hour).

You need a car to make the very most of your visit but you could spend a month here and not see everything!
