Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Our apartment is in the central and vibrant neighbourhood of Vesterbro - situated in a calm, closed-end street and next door to a church.
All of Copenhagens cultural and historic attractions and great shopping is within walking or biking distance from the apartment.

The building is from 1880. Our five room apartment is airy and light, with original wooden floors and stucco ceilings.

Towards the large yard (east/south) there is a balcony that overlooks the yard and the next door church. On the balcony is an easy-to-work Weber gas grill.

The apartment has five rooms - two bedrooms (each with a double bed), a living room, a dining room and a study.
The kitchen has a dishwasher, a gas stove, an electric oven and a microwave oven. Also, the apartment has a clothes washer and a dryer, fast internet, tv and dvd-player.

Supermarkets, bakeries and green grocers as well as a fishmonger and a butcher is just around the corner, and the neighborhood is filled with good restaurants and places that sell various take away.

Also, a great playground and a small park is just five minutes away on foot.

Shopping and various cultural and historic attractions are within walking or biking distance from the apartment - ex. the Tivoli Garden, Nyhavn, the little mermaid, the castle of King Christian the Fourth, Harbour boat tours, Royal Copenhagen Porcelain, arts and history museums and the Carlsberg Brewery. The famous Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is a short train ride away - so is the charming Swedish city of Malmö.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Practically every street of Copenhagen has a bicycle lane. Excell. public transport is a 1 minute walk away down our street - train to the airport from the Central Station is only a 15 min. walk away or 7 min. by bus. Also easy transport to attractions outside of Copenhagen, incl. short metro ride to beaches and forests just outside the city center, great for a picknick - or instead of going to the beach, you can just stay in Copenhagen and take a swim in the clean waters of one of the many harbour-baths.

The great Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, surrounded by forest and overlooking the sea, is only 35 min. away by train.

The second-largest city of Sweden, Malmo, is only 25 min. away by train.

The charming fishing village of Gilleleje is an hour away be train - great for a day trip, bringing bikes on the train - it is wonderful to bike along the sandy paths through the forest and along the beach after a lunch of fried fish and cold beer...

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

So many great places to eat or just have a glas of wine or a cup of coffee in the charming street 'Vaernedamsvej' just 2 minutes away from the apartment - and great home made ice cream in the side street 'Tullinsgade'. On Vesterbrogade at the end of our street is the three story bar 'Liedkob' - situated in an old house in a court yard. It is a bit hidden away - you get there by going through the building situated just next (on the right side) to the supermarked 'Føtex' - and just 3 min. away from the apartment. The court yard is charming - great for beer or a drink in the afternoon or nighttime during the summer months. The house itself holds three different bars, each with a special atmosphere and drinks-theme - from the young and vibrant, over the more calm for drinks and beers, and at the top floor only various whiskey - great for winter in front of the fireplace, or just a rainy summer night.

Our favourite restaurants

  • Simply excellent Mexican/South American restaurant 'Ilama' - colourful tiles and black painted walls, candles
  • 'Restaurant Maven' for an excellent danish lunch on a rainy day, situated in former church, now part restaurant, part art galleri, in historic Nicolai square in central Copenhagen
  • The inexpensive but good Italian restaurant under the big old three in historic square Graabrodre Torv (Grey friars square) in center of Copenhagen

Cafés & bars

  • 'Le Gormand' for a great glas of wine and french 'tapas' in local street 'Vaernedamsvej'
  • 'Café Gaest' on Frederiksberg Alle - my go to place for the best cup of coffee and a read in the sun, also excellent brunch and lunch
  • Liedkob - great for beer or drinks - or whiskey

Special places to shop

  • Local big supermarked 'Føtex' down the street on Vesterbrogade
  • Local butcher 'Slagteren' on Tullinsgade - '
  • Local fishmonger 'Kodan Fisk' on Store Kongensgade

Walks or jogging paths

  • A great run (or walk) is down along the five 'lakes' on the quiet side (only bikes and pedestrians)
  • The Park 'Frederiksberg have'

Interesting day trips

  • Kronborg Castle in the charming town Helsingnor (yes - Hamlet)
  • Fishing village 'Gilleleje' on the northern coast (1 hour by train) - bring bikes on the train and after lunch bike the beautiful paths along the seaside and forests
  • Daytrips to the historic towns Roskilde or Aarhus by train or to charming, historic towns in southern Sweden by ferry or train
