Casa Loro Verde (Green Parrot in Spanish) is accessible by 2 wheel drive up a private mountain road . The road is used by 9 households and their guests, so the road is very quiet most of the time. The house looks back into the river valley, with only a couple of houses visible from where we are and facing away from humanity for a quiet sense of seclusion.The birds, animals, and insects that thrive in this location are a constant wonder and source of entertainment. There is a small town that you drive through to get to our road where you can get very basic supplies, and one will feed you a terrific fried chicken dinner in a very rustic setting (think dirt floor.) Larger grocery stores are out along the highway or you can stock up in the larger towns and use the well equipped kitchen to cook for yourselves. The house is striking distance to Manuel Antonio National park, surf beaches and white water rafting. The Portalon valley boasts a beautiful river only a 5 minute walk down from the house. We often walk up the river to beautiful falls and swimming holes. There are several sets of them as you traverse up the river. This is a great activity in the afternoon when it might be too hot on the beach.
