We are a mid fifties couple, she is a retired counsellor and Spanish teacher and he is a retired RCMP officer. We have travelled to many countries through our lifetime and upon retirement decided to be in her home country of Colombia where the weather, culture, people, food, music and dancing make you feel alive. We have a daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandchildren in North Vancouver, BC, Canada who we would like to visit more often. We prefer to have a home exchange from 3 to 4 weeks every 1 to 2 years in the North Vancouver or Vancouver area.

The home is located 20 minutes south of Cali off the PanAmerican highway in a large gated and community with security. The property is 3/4 of an acre enclosed with a large swimming pool and and bar area. The large beautiful 30+ year old Colonial Spanish style home has a water fountain in the middle of the home. There are numerous palm and fruit trees throughout the property. There is a full time gardener/handyman that maintains everything from Monday to Friday. A cleaner also attends every second week. A variety of birds, geckos and the odd time a iguana will entertain you as well. Jamundi is a 20 minute walk where you will find a bustling city 112,000. We have 12 hours of sunlight and 12 of darkness year round. The weather is fabulous with most days high 20's C to mid 30 C during the day and 18-21 C at night. No AC is needed do to the design of the home and the thick adobe walls.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
A 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the home and you will be in the centre of Jamundi. Jamundi is very well known in Colombia for inventing the Cholado or Raspao which is an icy beverage with fresh fruit and sweetened condensed milk. It is made from crushed ice or shaved ice, chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and served with a wafer cookie, sometimes topped with whipped cream and shredded cheese. The common fruits that are used in the preparation include banana, apple, kiwi, strawberry, papaya, pineapple, mango, and soursop. They are addictive. Shopping in Jamundi and Cali's various markets and stores alone can keep you busy for days. Cali has numerous festivals and attractions to see such as museums, zoo, La Ermita Church, Loma de Cruz, various parks, markets, Boulevard del Rio, Rio Pance, Cerro de Las Tres Cruces, and Cristo Rey which is a bit smaller than the one in Brazil. There is so much more to see and do. If you google "things to in Cali Colombia" you will see for yourself all that you can see and do. After a few days of sightseeing and you feel you need a rest, kick back and lay by the pool. Almost all restaurants and various stores will deliver to the home. Some Spanish is very useful or have google translate on your telephone. The exchange rate to Colombian pesos is very favorable to the Canadian dollar so your money goes a long way.
