Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Vernon has a variety of entertainment venues; we boast one of the oldest cinemas in British Columbia; The Towne Theatre is 10 minutes walk and shows a variety of interesting films.(Check out their website, https://www.thetowne.ca.) We also have a Cineplex with 6 theatres. The Performing Arts Centre attracts world class acts if you're interested in planning to attend. We also have The Vernon Jazz Society which runs shows twice a month during fall, winter and spring. From our house we can walk downtown where there are many wonderful restaurants, cafes, coffee shops.

We have 3 lakes; Okanagan Lake, the head of the lake is just north of Vernon and the end is in Penticton about 2.5 hours drive south.
Kalamalka Lake (Lake of many colours) is almost in our back yard. We are able to cycle to it from our house...using the Rail Trail, which starts at Kal Lake, cycling along the lake all the way to Kelowna is something many people do in the summer. During the winter, many people cross country ski on this trail.
Swan Lake is a small lake north of the city, it has a rowing club and a protected area for walking, bird watching and generally enjoying nature.

We also have 3 Provincial parks; Kalamalka Park, Silver Star and Ellison. Camping is possible at Ellison and other areas close by. Hiking is possible in all three parks where the views are spectacular! If you get too hot, swimming, boating and other water activities are at your doorstep. Vernon also has a series of trails known as the Grey Canal system they vary in degree of difficulty but all are user friendly. BX Creek trail system is also beautiful and offers reprieve from the hot summer sun. Walk down by the creek and through lush green forests.

Our home is 30 minutes from a world class Nordic ski facility; Sovereign Lake and 40 minutes from Silver Star Mountain Resort is a beautiful village which is known for a wide variety of winter sports including both downhill and nordic skiing as well as tubing, skating and more. Summer time sees many mountain bike enthusiasts ride the trails.

If you want to adventure further afield, the Okanagan Valley and North Thompson are beautiful and offer many adventures. The Okanagan Valley is known for it's wineries and now cideries are growing in number as well and there are a handful of craft distilleries in the area. The opportunities for day adventures are endless, this is an area of the world for everyone. If you are a golfer, bring your clubs, there are many courses to choose from. Tennis anyone? There are beautiful courts all over and they are free to use.
If you have any questions, just ask...we will be happy to talk about this fabulous corner of the world.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

It is important that our neighbours are respected and that if music is played while using the deck or outside areas, the volume is not loud. We would appreciate no loud parties or large gatherings.
During the summer months, if a garden is planted, we would appreciate that plants are watered as necessary and vegetables are harvested as needed * There is an automatic watering system installed. I will also organize with neighbours to come pick food, if that is agreeable with you - you will not be inundated.
It is important that our home is clean and tidy for our return.
Thanks
