Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Our 1960’s neighborhood is comprised of large, spacious lots, tall cedar, hemlock and Douglas Fir trees and flower gardens. Our home backs onto a green belt which affords privacy and a view. Grocery shopping and cafés are within a ten minute drive. Abbotsford is known as a « city in the country ». It is situated in the middle of the Fraser Valley 3 km north of the border with Washington State and it extends from west to east for150 km. (from Vancouver to narrow at Hope, B.C.) The Fraser Valley is a road (paved country roads) and mountain biker’s paradise. There is also a well developed regional park system featuring many walking/jogging/cycling trails.
In winter, alpine and nordic skiing are available within a 1.5 hour drive at Manning Provincial Park and Sasquatch Mountain Resort as well as at Mt. Baker in Washington State, U.S.A. Whistler B.C. is a 2.5 hour drive from our home. Raspberry and blueberry farms abound in the Fraser Valley and the popular Abbotsford Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning from May to October provides opportunities to buy local fresh produce, craft beer and artisan crafts.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Historic downtown Abbotsford is a 5 minute drive away where there are small shops and restaurants. We are 20 minutes from Cultus Lake which is a popular swimming and boating destination and we are considered a « small city in the country « with many farms nearby. Biking and walking are popular here. The 31 km Discovery Trail (paved dedicated community bicycle and walking trail) extends through park and marsh land from the east to the west side of Abbotsford.

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

You will find our home tidy and well organized. We would like to return to a clean home and we promise to leave your home in a clean state as well. Smoking and pets are not allowed. It is a large home with access to many activities in the surrounding countryside and so would suit a family as well as a couple. Indoor plant care would be appreciated but we will make arrangements for the outside gardens to be cared for, especially lawn cutting and watering.
