Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

If you are looking for a holiday which offers you a wide range of possibilities, this is the place where you have to be.
Our very spacious duplex flat (135 square metres) is situated in the setting of a 16th century farmhouse which used to be one of the many famous farmhouse breweries in our wellknown "beervillage" Hoegaarden. It is surrounded by lovely fields and nice footpaths and has a beautiful secluded garden which is accesible for the inhabitants of the residence. There is a lot of light in the flat and it is furnished with nice and comfortable 19 th century French furniture and equiped with present-day conveniences. If you bring your portable computer with you, you can, of course, use the wifi access to the internet.
The small and exteremely calm village of Hoegaarden is situated at about 10 miles from the Flemish-Walloon border, in a region of outstanding natural beauty and it offers a lovely range of typical Flemish pubs and restaurants in a beautiful aesthetic setting, as the pictures, which I have all taken myself, will show you.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Hoegaarden, which is known as one of the most beautiful villages in Flanders, is a very quiet, friendly and cosy village with friendly people, beautiful houses, historical buildings , a magnificent village garden and some very nice pubs and restaurants. Moreover it is situated in a region of outstandig natural beauty. You can find all kinds of practical services (bus, bank office, post office, police office...) and yet you are in the middle of a beautiful countryside as soon as you leave our residence. Moreover it is not far from the famous, old university town of Leuven/Louvain and of Brussels, the capital of Europe, which offers, of course, a wealth of cultural, culinary and scientific possibilities. Historic towns such as Brugges, Ghent, Antwerp, Liège and Namur are at one to two hours distance by car.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

Hoegaarden is a small and very cosy village. It has a magnificent park (the "Toontuinen" or "Showgardens" ) which is famous throughout the country and a very lovely countryside for walking and cycling. A few miles to the south you can find the pitoresque small villages of the French speaking part of the country. The nearby markettown of Tienen has a very friendly atmosphere and very cosy pubs, restaurants and shops and a few very nice historical buildings. In one of them, in which the musical academy ad library are situated, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his father Leopold spent one night during their first journey through Europe in the year 1763. In one of his letters Leopold describes the market place of Tienen as the most beautiful he had ever seen and...more famous than Salzburg. We don't know if he had drunk a lot of beer from Hoegarden when he wrote this quote, but anyhow, I hope my pictures will make it possible for you to judge. The old and very famous university town of Leuven is at a distance of about 25 kilmometers and Brussels, the capital of Europe is at about the same distance. Since Belgium is but a small country you can easily reach famous tows such as Antwerpen, Brugge, Gent, Liège, Namur in about one hour drive by car or train. From spring untill late autumn art festivals with an international reputation (the "Festival Van Vlaanderen" and "Festival de Wallonie") offer you a wide range of musical entertainment on a very high level and a lot of other festivals cover several types of music, dance and theatre.
