Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Art-nouveau house from 1904 (architect Emile Lambot), you have 250m², 3 bedrooms, office, 2 bathrooms. Large volumes, high moulded ceilings, very luminous, parquet and wooden floors throughout, incredible marble fireplaces, the house has kept all the art-nouveau decorative elements typical of the early 20th century. City garden (architect Vaxelaire and Deckers) of 150 m² South-South-East with terrace, barbecue, deckchairs; roof-top terrace with 360° view. On the ground floor there is a rented flat with an independent entrance in the hall. On the first floor, there is the kitchen (and back kitchen with direct access to the garden), the dining room and the living room; these are 3 rooms in a row with accordion doors that open up the whole space. On the 2nd floor, large double bedroom (king size bed), bathroom (bath and shower), office. On the 3rd floor: 2 teenage bedrooms (single beds on the mezzanine) and shower room, rooftop access. The house is not suitable for young children (lots of ornaments, high beds, unprotected stairs, no specific equipment).

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Ixelles is one of the most prized districts in Brussels, we are in the university neighbourhoods (voted in 2020 the 2nd "coolest neighbourhoods in Europe" by The Gardian ;-). We are in a quiet street, but all the shops, restaurants and bars are within 500m. A 10 minute walk will take you to the "Bois de la Cambre" (a superb park) which gives access to the Soignes forest, the green lung of Brussels, 5000 hectares partially classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. In 30 minutes on foot (or 10 by bike or 20 by tram), you arrive at Avenue Louise and Avenue de la Toison d'Or, the trendy shopping area of Brussels (also theatres and cinemas). A 15-minute bike ride will take you to the famous Grand Place of Brussels (16th century). To arrive, leave by train or plane, or visit the country, train station is 500m from the house.

The cultural life in Brussels is very rich. 14 cinemas, more than 30 theatres, a hundred or so museums and exhibitions (Magritte, Chocolat, comic strips, Tintin, Horta, etc.), clubs, bars, restaurants, shops of all styles and prices, etc. Brussels also has a great architectural past (Grand Place, Atomium, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, etc.), and dozens of green spaces where it's good to take a walk.
