We are a family of five: my husband Jo, myself, our son Nathan and Jo's two older sons Timon and Milan (who live with us half of the time). We like relaxed vacations with a combination of citytrip and nature. So far, we have had four very nice exchanges. The oldest boys sometimes join us for vacations, but not always.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Antwerp is known for its fashion, diamonds, port, architecture and rich history. But it also offers numerous opportunities for culture and entertainment, and has a lively 'hip' scene. The "Summer in Antwerp" and "Winter in Antwerp" festivals (respectively in July-Aug. and around Christmas) give an extra to that, with cultural events, pop up bars etc.
We live in a lively multicultural neighbourhood with a lot of young families. Our street is close to public transport and 'city bike' stations. Our neighbourhood is within the 'ring' (highway around Antwerp) and the historical center is about 15' by tram or bike. At walking distance we have 2 nice squares with restaurants, pubs and terraces. We live close to the "Zurenborg" district and het Cogels-Osylei, that is known for its beautiful neoclassical and art nouveau houses.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
All architectural and cultural places of interest in Antwerp are close by. There are lots of possibilities to go out or go shopping, and there are nice things to do with children. At walking distance we have 2 nice squares with restaurants, pubs and terraces. The most famous is the Dageraadplaats, which is also very childfriendly (pubs: Zeezicht, Camping Campina, Moeskop, ... / restaurants: Overvloed, Primo, Strand Van Oostende, El Warda,...). An upcoming place is the Moorkensplein (coffee house Mokakapot, pub Mombasa, restaurants Bar Luca and Miró).
Just outside the city center there are nice parks to walk and play, and there is a nature reserve (moorland) north of Antwerp (30' by car).
From Antwerp, there are good connections (by train or car) with other Belgian or Dutch cities as Brussels (30'), Ghent (50'), Bruges (1.20h) and Rotterdam (1.30h) or to the Belgian seaside (1.30h). (indicated times are by train)

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
It is important to us to find the house neat and tidy when we get back.
Jo is a little allergic to cats, so we cannot stay in an house with (especially long haired) cats that stay inside.
We are looking for an exchange in the summer (7 to 12 days, best between 23/7 and 3/8), preferably a combination of city trip and nature. Our first choice would be in the surroundings of Copenhagen or London or the Lot area in France, but we are open to other suggestions. Apart for that, we are open for one or two shorter exchanges (weekend, long weekend or midweek in school vacations) not too far from Antwerp (< 200 km).
