Description of the home we are offering for exchange
The Home
We live in possibly the best part of town here in Graz, the second-biggest city in Austria. In 2003, Graz was the European Capital of Culture and has always been renown for its cultural offers (opera house, classical concerts, museums etc.), its many students (around 60,000 from all around the world) and for its Italian charm.
We bought the brand new penthouse in 2015. One could definitely describe it as luxurious; it comes with two parking bays in the underground parking, a large terrace and an elevator, that directly connects our floor with the parking. The apartment offers three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms with showers, a large entry hall with guest toilet, a very modern open living-dining-kitchen area and a second entry to one of the bedrooms/guestrooms. The master bathroom contains a bathtub besides the shower and a heat cabin. Two of the bedrooms have king-size beds, one comes with a queen-size bed. All three of them offer cable tv and internet. Up to six people can sleep comfortably in our home.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Our apartment complex lies nestled in between the university suburb, a big hospital complex and a large park with green woods and a small lake. Nevertheless, we are incredibly close to the city centre which can be reached in 5 min by car or 10-15 min by tram, (the stop is only a 3 min walk away). Within a few minutes you get to our local bakery and supermarket. The bigger shopping centres are either in the city or on the edge of town but are all accessible via public transport, or, of course, by car. Our neighbours are very nice, quiet people, university professors, entrepreneurs, MDs etc.
Graz in itself is often described as the world's smallest major city, or the biggest small town. It offers extensive flair, culture and all kinds of entertainment, yet also the possibility to easily get to other fantastic places in Europe. Most of them can be reached within a few hours by car or train. Here are a few examples: Vienna 200 km, Venice 430 km, Budapest 430 km, Ljubljana 200 km, Zagreb 190 km, Salzburg 280 km or Munich 420 km.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
While Graz is not a skiing destination as such, there is a superb range of winter sports available close-by. A number of skiing regions are less than one hour away. Schladming is the city that will host the ski world championship in 2013, and it is less than two hours’ drive away.
For those who enjoy swimming there are many public indoor pools around the city, as well as fantastic thermal spas about an hour’s drive away from Graz.
Our International Airport is only 30 min from the house, offering a large number of flights daily. Low fare airlines tempt you with short trips to Düsseldorf, Berlin, Zürich, Frankfurt, London, Mallorca and many more great cities around Europe.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
Herta and I love travelling and we successfully did some 30+ home-swaps during the last years
We would much appreciate a car exchange and can gladly offer: Skoda Yeti
The people
We are both in our 60ies (non-smokers) and have two wonderful grown-up children. Herta, my wife is retired, she worked as a teacher in a high school and I (Richard) am an entrepreneur (vintage cars and real estate). Our daughter Stephanie and our son Niki live near Graz and in Vienna and they will sometimes travel with us; otherwise they can be of assistance with the house hand-over.
