Allen is a retired Assistant Commissioner/Paramedic (Queensland & Victorian Ambulance) who enjoys gardening, reading, the companionship of members of The Samford Mens Shed and the occasional golf game. Elaine also enjoys gardening and reading, craft, art, and catching up with friends for coffee mornings.
Fortunately, we both enjoy good health and have a keen sense of humour. We love to travel (anywhere we can: overseas, or within Australia in our caravan), we don't exercise as much as we should but we do like walking, enjoy good food, love all sports (especially Australian Rules Football and Cricket), and thoroughly enjoy live theatre, stage plays, and musicals.
Due to a promotion in Allen's work we shifted from Victoria to Queensland 30 years ago. We love Samford, surrounded by hills and the lush country side, the laid-back village life, and the nine months-of-the-year of outdoor living, picnics, and barbecues that are typical of the Queensland life-style.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home is a very clean, light, spacious and comfortable house set on one-third of an acre of land. The house is situated on top of a hill with lovely views of the surrounding mountains and neighbourhood. The kitchen and outdoor entertaining area overlook a tropical garden of bromeliads and palms. The house build was completed in September, 2022 and has an open living/dining/kitchen area, three bedrooms (one with ensuite), a study, a TV room, laundry and additional toilet.
If you love birds then you will enjoy the kookaburras, butcher-birds, magpies, galahs, cockatoos, corellas, and various lorikeets which fly in regularly to be either hand fed or eat from the feeders.
The small village of Dayboro is in a rural area set in the hills about 46kms outside Brisbane and contains a mix of historical buildings, restaurants, trendy cafes, shops, services and a local pub for casual dining. It is popular at weekends with tourists coming for a drive from Brisbane city. Some of the local sports available in the district include swimming, horse riding, and lawn bowls.
Dayboro is only a one hour drive to Queensland's finest beaches and tourist attractions e.g. Australia Zoo, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the Sunshine Coast; two hours to the Gold Coast; and only 15 minutes to scenic rainforest walks and waterfalls.
Brisbane City is an easy 60 minute drive by car and 15 minutes drive to the nearest railway station at Petrie.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Dayboro is a beautiful, rural area surrounded by large hills and bushland. It is situated about an hour from Brisbane's CBD and is becoming a popular rural residential area. Many properties are set on large acreage of lush, green paddocks. Our neighbours are friends who would be only too willing to assist in making your holiday memorable.
The quaint Dayboro Village is small in size but has shades of yester-year. The locals are exceptionally friendly and welcoming to visitors to their small community. It has a very popular bakery, chemist, post office, swimming pool, IGA supermarket, and an historical hotel situated at the top end of the main street. It is very popular at weekends with 'tree-changers' from the metropolitan area visiting to enjoy the variety of eating places in a rural setting.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Dayboro has the charm of a small rural village. There are several cafes and restaurants, and the historical local Hotel has lovely meals. Due to Dayboro's good climate the majority of the eating places cater for outside dining. There are several boutique gift shops, Dayboro Art Gallery, and view the beautiful local arts & crafts at Hay Cottage.
A monthly market is held in the park in the centre of the Dayboro township.
There are many walking trails, bushwalking in the Mt. Mee State Forest, horse riding, four-wheel drive adventures, and leisurely pursuits including vineyards, picnic areas or feeding farm animals.
