We are a couple in our 60s, who spend 3 months in Europe - mainly Geneva and The Netherlands - once in three years. We are retired, but still do some work as researchers/consultants. In the winters of the other two years we like to go 'up north' - somewhere a bit warmer than Canberra

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
Our home is 113m2, with three bedrooms and one bathroom (with shower and two basins) and a loungeroom and kitchen. There are many outside places to sit and enjoy our garden: an 80m2 terrace with pergola on the west and south side of the house, a 20m2 deck adjacent to bedroom 3 which is accessible through double doors. The house is on a 1000m2 block of land, and the garden - which was in an Open Garden Scheme in 2015 - features mainly Australian plants, a pond with creek, a 30m2 terrace in the bottom of the garden, and a view to the Brindabellas - a mountain range to the south (http://www.opengardenscanberra.org.au/node/18).

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Canberra is mainly a conglomeration of leafy suburbs each with their own small shopping centre, with the four main centres draped around lakes. Flynn is one such suburb, 2 km from the nearest small shopping centre, 5 kms from a large shopping centre (Belconnen), and 13 km from the centre of town where most musea, art centres and other important government buildings are, include National Gallery of Australia, Australian Museum, Portrait Gallery, Parliament House (old and new), War Memorial and National Library of Australia.
Buses are 5 minutes walk from the house, and drive to all major centres.
The Pacific Ocean is about 2 hours drive to the east, and the mountains are 2 hours drive to the south west.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Canberra, Australia's capital, was built from 1913 onwards as a garden city according to the prize-winning design of Walter Burley Griffin and his wife, Marion Mahoney Griffen. Its centre, north of the lake, is small, but there are many leafy suburbs, some in rural settings. These suburbs are connected not only by roads, but also by bike paths, giving the illusion that you can ride by bike to the centre through rural areas.
South of the lake is the Government Triangle, with both the old and new Parliament House, and many other federal buildings, such as the High Court, National Library, and Ministries. Other attractions in that area are the Australian Museum, the Art Gallery, the Portrait Gallery and the War Memorial.
The Pacific Ocean with lots of beautiful beaches, is two hours drive (east) from Canberra, and the mountains (excellent place for walking in summer and skiing in winter) is two hours driving south-west from Canberra.
