Allen is a retired Assistant Commissioner/Paramedic (Queensland & Victorian Ambulance) who enjoys gardening, reading, the companionship of The Samford Mens Shed and the occasional golf game. Elaine also enjoys gardening and reading, craft, art, and catching up with friends for coffee mornings.
Fortunately we both enjoy good health and have a keen sense of humour. We love to travel (anywhere we can, overseas or within Australia in our caravan), we don't exercise as much as we should but we do like walking, enjoy good food, love all sports (especially Australian Rules Football and Cricket), and thoroughly enjoy live theatre, stage plays, and musicals.
When we are home our 11 y.o. grandson, who lives near by, keeps us active and feeling young.
Due to a promotion in Allen's work we shifted from Victoria to Queensland 28 years ago. We love Samford, surrounded by hills and the lush country side, the laid-back village life, and the nine months-of-the-year of outdoor living, picnics, and barbecues that are typical of the Queensland life-style.

Description of the home we are offering for exchange
We already have our exchanges organised for 2019 and are now looking for swaps in 2020 and 2021.
Our home is a very clean, light, spacious and comfortable two-storey house set on two acres of land. The house is situated on top of a hill with lovely views of the surrounding mountains. The kitchen and outdoor entertaining area overlook a tropical garden of bromeliads and palms. All the living area is downstairs whilst the four bedrooms, an ensuite, and one bathroom are on the second level.
The downstairs area is very spacious with a lounge/dining room, kitchen and dining area, laundry, shower room, study, a T.V./lounge room, and a games room with a table-tennis table set up ready for a game. The light and airy games room also has a juke box and computer table.
If you love birds then you will enjoy the kookaburras, butcher-birds, magpies, galahs, cockatoos, corellas, and various lorikeets which fly in regularly to be either hand fed or eat from the feeders.
The small village of Samford is in a rural area set in the hills about 25kms outside Brisbane and contains a mix of historical buildings, restaurants, trendy cafes, shops, services and a local pub for casual dining. It is popular at weekends with tourists coming for a drive from Brisbane city.
Some of the local sports available in the district include swimming, horse riding, golf, tennis, table-tennis and lawn bowls. Situated just at the end of our street is a park with a children's playground and barbeque area, which is a lovely place to have a picnic or to wander by the little creek.
Samford is a one hour drive to Queensland's finest beaches and tourist attractions e.g. Australia Zoo, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, and only 15 minutes to scenic rainforest walks and waterfalls.
Brisbane City is an easy 30 minute drive by car and 10 minute drive to the nearest railway station.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Samford Valley is a beautiful, rural area surrounded by large hills and bushland. Most properties (including our own) are set on two acres of lush, green paddocks. Our neighbours are good friends and would be only too willing to assist in making your holiday memorable.
Samford Village is only four kms away and is a very friendly township. It is very popular at weekends with folk coming from the City to enjoy the variety of cafes, restaurants and eating places in a rural setting.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
Samford is a suburb of Brisbane but has the charm of a small country village.
There are many cafes and restaurants, and the local Hotel which has lovely meals. Due to Samford's good climate the majority of the eating places cater for outside dining. There are several boutique gift shops.
The Samford Historical Museum (open Wednesdays) has items on display from a by-gone era. Also open on Wednesdays, is Millen Farm, a Community Garden which sells vegetables fresh from the garden.
There are many walking trails, and horse riding and many sporting activities available.
