Our Home For Exchange

Description of the home we are offering for exchange

Stroll through ti-tree to the surf beach and rockpools from our light, bright beach house (originally built in the 70s) with full length windows facing out into the garden. Kitchen, bathrooms and laundry are updated and spotless. Stainless steel cooktop and oven, microwave, and built-in dishwasher in kitchen. Washing machine and dryer in laundry - the clothesline uses solar and wind power to dry the washing most days though!

Two bedrooms (main with ensuite) have queen-size beds, the third 2 x single beds. Central bathroom with separate toilet.

The kitchen/livingroom has reverse cycle air conditioning; main bedroom has ceiling fans, and all bedrooms have oil heaters.

Outdoor BBQ is plumbed to town gas.

Enjoy peace and tranquillity, listen to the surf roar. Watch the gorgeous birdlife -wattle birds, magpies, sometimes even ground parrots; and if you're lucky, spot the fairy wrens in the garden. We are occasionally visited by echidnas and blue-tongue lizards.

Neighbourhood

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area

Peaceful walks in the national parks, with vibrant Sorrento and Rye just minutes away, for interesting shops and a multitude of restaurants. We are close to wineries, distilleries and breweries; easy access to world-class surf and bay beaches, and a 7 minute drive to the Sorrento/Queenscliff ferry to start your Great Ocean Road adventure.

And golf? there's a huge choice of world class clubs to play. If you're a foodie, the Peninsula is known for its great food, wine and weekly farmers' markets. So many attractions all year round including great bay and ocean fishing. In summer months, there's u-pick strawberries and cherries as well.

We are a very short drive (5 minutes) from the Peninsula Hot Springs spa centre - unique, hot thermal mineral springs with public and private pools. See www.peninsulahotsprings.com for more information. A new spa is under construction as of mid 2021. Arts and culture - there's the Mornington Peninsula Art Gallery, and McLelland Sculpture Park. Something for everyone!

Attractions

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home

There are more than 150 local wineries on the peninsula - Check out www.morningtonpeninsulawineries.com.au/ - we recommend lunch at T'Gallant or Ten Minutes by Tractor (expensive but really good http://www.tenminutesbytractor.com.au/The-Restaurant). More locally at Blairgowrie village, casual cafes and pizza for those lazy brunches.

No visit to the peninsula would be complete without a visit to the hot springs, and perhaps a spa treatment - see http://www.peninsulahotsprings.com/day-spa

Fishing expeditions and swimming with dolphins operate from Rye and Sorrento piers - try www.thejillian.com.au

Bushwalking - download maps from www.discovermorningtonpeninsula.com.au

Walk over the road and through the national park to Dimmicks Beach, and follow the clifftop walk to Sorrento.

Visit the weekly farmers' markets, or check what's seasonal at the farm gate shops. Our favourite Saturday morning markets are at Boneo and Tootgarook. The Strawberry farm is always a popular destination for fresh fruit, icecream, coffee and cake. Drive across the peninsula to the village of Hastings - fabulous ocean views and great coffee when you arrive.

We keep lots of local information on hand at the beach house for our visitors - the hardest part is choosing!

Our Preferences

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules

The impact of COVID means we are unable to plan any overseas exchanges for now. When Victorians can plan with confidence to travel more widely within Australia we'd be delighted to see offers. We are hoping to do our bit to support homegrown businesses once more.

All offers welcome - please note family books the house from late Dec/mid Jan most years.

We are experienced exchangers - we value and enjoy all our varied experiences. We love hosting our return exchanges and showcasing the the local scene - whether in Melbourne and its city surrounds in a hospitality exchange, or at our Peninsula beach house.
