Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
From our house it is a short walk to the beach (0.8km). This area is popular for beach fishing & leisure. Sarina which is the closest township/shopping area is a 10km drive NW. Sarina is a pretty little town nestles at the base of Connors Range & has several take-away, dining & shopping facilities.
Mackay is a busy regional city with all facilities. The surrounding areas include many beautiful beaches & hinterland. Eungella National park is an hours drive west of Mackay up through
the Pioneer Valley. Airlie Beach/Whitsunday coast is a 2hr drive north.
Armstrong Beach is renowned for it's fishing & prawning, both of which are best attempted from the beach. A short 10 min. drive north to Freshwater Point is where Captain Cook first landed in 1770, looking for fresh water- hence it's name. There are no shopping facilities at Armstrong Beach but supermarkets, P.O., banks etc. are available at Sarina (a 10 min. drive NW). Sarina is a pretty town nestled at the base of the Connors range.
Sarina Sugar Shed is a must to visit. Award winning tourist attraction over several years. Very educational, entertaining & informative tour with 'taste testing' the 'goodies' at the end & products to purchase if you wish.
