We are a retired couple, who love travelling and exploring Australia and New Zealand. We have had many exchanges since retiring, now in excess of 30, and enjoyed making new friends, during these adventures. We have explored NZ from South to North and just love the vast countryside. Then in Oz we have been all round the Coasts, every major City and traveled the Center from North to South, vice versa and the Longest Shortcut from west to east,included the tip of Cape York and all round Tazmania. Our exchanges are arranged, to explore an area and refresh ourselves for the next journey. We are now planning a new trip in 2018 and would love to hear from you. Our Villa in the Algarve, in Portugal, is our escape from the cold wet weather in Spring and Autumn in Scotland. Our friendly Portuguese Neighbours, look after our Villa, who also speak fluent French, with some English. Portugal is a lovely country, steeped in History, with it's own beautiful Micro Climate, the Best in Europe!

Villa Monte Rosa is delightfully situated and offers beautiful views of the sea, with complete privacy and bright, spacious accommodation, set within grounds of about 2 and half acres. It is snuggled into the south facing terraces of the hillside of Sao Miguel. Well sheltered, although it still gets the sea breezes, to cool you from the heat. A lovely Dining Veranda where you can sit and watch the sun set with a glass of wine, or sit up on the roof terrace to watch the stars. There is an orchard with a variety of fruit, which you can help yourself to whatever is in season, also lots of land to explore.
Situated on several levels of terracing, it overlooks it's own pool with patio area and BBQ. There is a garage and games room with pool table below, also a terrace for playing Boule/Petanque.
The large pool area is very welcoming and it can be floodlit, lovey in a hot night to experience

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
The Villa is situated midway between the Village of Azinheiro and Barranco do Sao Miguel, both of which are only 3 minutes walk. A beautiful country area, in amongst the rural hillsides with lots of goat tracks and small farms to explore. The views are stunning, looking down to the Eastern Coast, which streaches from Faro to the Spanish Border. Then a short walk up the hill and you can see the inland hills, towns and forests to the North and over to the Spanish Border which is only approx., half an hour away on the A22 Motorway. Azinheiro is a quiet, tiny Village, Cafe O'Rissol, is run by a Portuguese couple, Sandra and Paul who speak fluent English, having lived in South Africa for a while. Lovely to sit and watch the world go by, enjoying a toastie at lunch time, or a sunset tipple. Next to the Cafe there is a Mini Mercado where you can buy your daily essentials.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
The nearby towns of Estoi (8mins) Moncarapacho (10mins), Olhao (15mins), and Sao Bras de Alportel (8 mins) all driving distances, have banks, shops, supermarkets, local outdoor markets and a wide range of excellent local restaurants. There are several glorious beaches, only 15mins or so, on the islands of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. Also ideally placed between the East and West Golf Courses, which the Algarve is famed for.
A new Zip Wire experience, only about an hours drive, on the Guardiana River, which borders Spain and Portugal. A boat takes you over the river, then you Zip Wire back over the river to Alcoutim. The only Zip Wire over a river between 2 Countries. Great Experience.
The West Algarve Coast and Hinterland have many Historic Buildings, Water Parks,, Zoo Marina, and other Attractions, all within half to one and a half hours drive.

- Vitor's, Local Food at reasonable prices. Estoi.

- Many donkey tracks in the hills around the Villa.
- Nature Reserve of the Ria Formosa, on the Coast, from Olhao, east towards Tavira.
Interesting day trips
- Villa Real de San Antonio, border town on Guardiana River. Also a Bird Sanctuary there and a Cruise up the River to Alcoutim
- Old Walled Town with Cathedral of Faro, down by the Harbour.
- Old Town and Castle of Silves
