Description of the home we are offering for exchange
MEMBERS SINCE 2012
Welcome to our home and welcome to Hanmer Springs, a very beautiful part of the South Island of New Zealand.
My husband and I love to travel. We are flexible for exchanges and have done more than 30 exchanges now, some with HomeLink, but also through other exchange sites. It is a great way to enjoy new experiences and we will care for your home, as we expect you to care for ours.
We live in a comfortable, modern house (210 sq meters), on 12 hectares, 7 kms from the tourist town of Hanmer Springs, with magnificent views to the mountains. It is quiet, peaceful and totally private, yet we are only 90 minutes to a major city (Christchurch). We wake to the sounds of melodious birds and to an amazing ever-changing landscape. Breathe deeply because the air is clear, clean and crisp.
Step into New Zealand's great outdoors for the serious hiker or enjoy tranquil forest walks around the village. Alternatively, get a rush of adrenaline with a bungy jump, jet boat ride, rafting, mountain bike or a quad bike experience. There is lots to do and some of New Zealand's finest vineyards are only an hour away. It is also famous for its large natural thermal pools which are a huge attraction. Pubs, bars and restaurant too if you enjoy a good social time.
Hanmer Springs is an alpine spa and tourist village, set in a large valley, 385 m above sea level and is surrounded by forests, mountains and New Zealand's spectacular outdoors. Here the summers are usually hot and dry, and the winters are cold, with snow around the house 3-4 times a year.
Hanmer Springs is 130 kms northwest of Christchurch and is an ideal location to explore the northern part of the South Island.

Our home exchange - places to go and things to do while staying in our home
There's lots to do.. walk the forest trails and breathe the fresh clean air; have a leisurely lunch or dinner at one of the excellent restaurants or cafes. You can also enjoy some of the best mountain biking in. New Zealand. There are tracks and challenges for every level. We have some great rivers, with trout fishing right at our back door (in New Zealand it only costs $145 for a season ticket).
If you want some to challenge you, how about trying a bungy jump from the bridge over the Waiau River, or an exciting jet boat ride or rafting trip. What about riding a quad bike across scenic landscapes, or perhaps a game of golf is your thing?
Try walking, trekking, skiing, mountain biking, horse riding, camping, hunting, mountain climbing or just going for a picnic or visiting some of the excellent wineries in Waipara where some of the best New Zealand Pinot Noir and Riesling is grown.
Take a day trip to Kaikoura and see the famous ecotourism Whale Watch experience and see the seals.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
My husband and I love to travel. We are flexible for exchanges. We are open to any suggestions. Simultaneous or non-simultaneous exchanges.
Since Covid, we are looking for exchanges a bit closer to home. We have done numerous exchanges to Australia and that is still top of the list, particularly anywhere a bit remote and we are always ready to explore more of our own country.
We are very experienced exchangers, and you can be assured we would look after your home to our own high standards and would expect you to do the same. We do not have animals, so our home is allergy-free.
We are also available to house sit if you prefer.
Our home is non-smoking, and we ask you to respect that. A car exchange is preferred.
