We had a lovely stay in Alexandra in Graeme and Yvonne's comfortable home. They made us feel very much at home staying to have lunch with us before they took off. Alexandra is a great spot to base yourself to explore Central Otago. There's plenty of bike riding and walking opportunities along the Otago rail trail. We enjoyed walking along the river and explored the quaint town of Clyde. Cromwell has an interesting historical area near the river as well. We enjoyed the wine area of Bannockburn near Cromwell which is only half an hour away.The scenery surrounding the area is dramatic and I'm sure would be lovely in Winter and Autumn, too. We were there in February and found the temperature warm. Yvonne recommended a fabulous butcher in town and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside in their gorgeous garden of an evening, BBQing some NZ lamb, eating the fresh produce from Graeme's extensive garden ( even potatoes!) and drinking a few glasses of local Pinot Noir!
